Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: I plan to work toward the goal of Global Awareness through the taking of French and eventually taking a study abroad trip to Paris in order to learn more about the philosophy and politics of the country. In addition, I will take several other classes that involves a more global component which will include history, literature, and history of art courses. OSU offers a unique mix of cultures right here on campus that I plan to engage by joining several organizations.

Original Inquiry: In order to better understand the research processes, I plan to take upper level courses in both Philosophy and Political Science. In addition, I have the opportunity to graduation with Honors Research Distinction which will involve researching and presenting an original thesis  to a panel of judges. From this experience, I will gain the necessary understanding  of research for a Philosophy and Political Science Major.

Academic Enrichment: Philosophy and Political Science are the bedrock of everything we do in life in general and I strive to have a better understanding of these subjects. I have always been inspired by authors who incorporate these ideas into their work and so a creative writing minor will hopefully give me the skills needed to do the same. I am most excited about taking a variety of general education courses that include literature, psychology, and history of art because these are all unique subjects that I want to learn more about.

Leadership and Development: I would like to join the philosophy club next semester along with another club that will help me stay in better shape. In addition, I would like to join a club about writing and producing literature. With a Political Science Major, I plan to join the undergraduate student government as well as try to intern with some of the local political figures.

Service Engagement: I plan on joining several service opportunities. I hope to join Buckeyethon next year which is a dance party in order to raise money for Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Additionally, I would like to join a dog walking service club to go to shelters and walk dogs for a couple hours on the weekend. Service opportunities are a great way to give back to a community that has already given me so much, and I plan to take full advantage of them.
