I choose the theme of art and music for my Columbus To Do List. I choose this because I am passionate about art and I was excited to explore the art around Columbus. For part one I visited the Pizuti collection and the Mona Lisa mural in the Short North. For the second part of the To Do List I choose to visit the Columbus Museum of Art, Gravity murals, and the rare books and manuscripts libraries showing of photograph collections. These three sites fit within the theme of art and music. The photographic collections was located in Thompson library but was a limited time showing of some famous photographs. It included old callotypes to new modern photographs done by photographers like Man Ray and Harry Callahan. Through looking at this photography in person I got to really understand the photograph and I learned about the callotypes and gelatin silver prints. I really enjoyed seeing all the different photography, with the great range of old and modern photography and I included a picture of my favorite photograph that was displayed. The Gravity Murals were located along the bottom of an apartment complex and added wonderful art to a great area. Along with the murals there is also sculptural trees and artful graffiti art on the ground. This interactive and interesting art space was a very fun place to visit. My favorite place that I visited was the Columbus Museum of Art, which of course showcases lots of impressive art, but I loved seeing all the different artwork from different times along with the impressive architecture of the museum itself. I learned a lot about artists and got to appreciate their work along the way. I would definitely recommend visiting the Columbus Museum of Art to anyone, even if not doing this specific project because it is filled with wonderful art that is inspiring and educational as well. Both of my favorite spots that I visited were part of the Columbus Museum of Art, as the Pizuti collection is a branch of the museum. This has lead me to want to explore more of the art in Columbus, specifically galleries around Columbus. Soon I plan to see the galleries in the Short North, and hope to go on the gallery hop next month. Through this project I learned that Columbus, although a newer city than cities like Cleveland, has tons of fun and inspiring art to enjoy, and a lot of it is free to students of The Ohio State University. If someone else was endeavoring to complete this same list I would encourage them to visit the museums and really get to see a lot of the gallery space, I would especially encourage them to go to the Columbus Museum of Art (on a Sunday if possible, because it is free), because even though it is a longer bus ride away, it is definitely worth it and a place that I will visit much more in my time here at Ohio State. I am very glad I choose art and music because it has opened me up to the wonderful galleries right here in Columbus.
