Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. Global Awareness:

I plan on pursuing global awareness through pursuing diversity and diversity studies in my career and while at The Ohio State University. I plan to pursue a degree in Psychology where at the university I can do many things in the way of raising awareness and understanding of diversity. I would like to pursue a career in experimental psychology, and racial and diversity studies would interest me greatly. At the university, I can begin my career in research in these fields. I am also interested in looking into studying abroad to explore diversity and extend my breadth of cultural knowledge. Global Awareness is key to a true liberal arts education and I am highly dedicated to fulfilling it

Original Inquiry

Original Inquiry is a large part of my academic plan and I plan to pursue it heavily in my academic career. I am preparing for a career in research psychology, and original research is an absolute must for this goal. At The Ohio State University I am looking to begin research as early as my sophomore year, and hopefully begin my own original inquiry early on. I also plan on taking a rigorous coursework which will demand my own expansion of my knowledge through original inquiry. I am prepared to begin my career in research at the university and original inquiry will help me to do that.

Academic Enrichment

I chose to pursue Psychology at The Ohio State University because of my mother’s career in counselling, my own problems with mental illness, and a need to help people. To achieve this degree I have crafted an academic plan to challenge myself and to enrich my experience as a student. I am very excited about several classes on my plan such as Microbiology: The History of HIV/AIDS, and the Psychology of Sexuality. I chose as many honors classes as possible so that I could gain as complex and challenging of an education as possible. I am very content with the fact that my scheduled coursework goes beyond what is required, as it will help to enhance my academic enrichment within the Honors & Scholars College.

Leadership Development

Leadership is a concept I have long been interested and associated with. In my pre-college  experiences I held multiple leadership positions and I look to continue that in my college career. I am not a part of any extracurricular activities during this semester, but I am very certain I will be in the future. In whatever groups I join in the future I will affirmatively seek out leadership positions, as it is an essential to a well-rounded Honors education. Leadership is a growth experience for young adults, and it teaches many valuable lessons, lessons I hope to learn in such leadership positions as a buckeye in my future educational experience.

Service Engagement

Service is an essential part to the Honors Arts and Sciences experience. In my career I hope to be heavily involved in public service and I plan on becoming involved in service early in my educational experience. I attended meetings for the Circle K service engagement club at OSU, but I have not attended any events, but I plan on – once I am settled in after this semester – to be an active member of the club. I would also love to be involved in service projects to help the poor, homeless, and drug-addicted, as these issues are very close to my heart because of family and friend experience with these plights. Service has always been an important part of my life, and with such a good service school as Ohio State, I am confident I will be active in service in my undergraduate career.
