Dr. Phillip Ward

Dr. Ward is the director of the Master of Sports Coaching degree. He is a former gymnast and gymnastics coach. Dr. Ward has degrees in the areas of sport science, behavior analysis and instructional effectiveness. His research interest includes understanding expertise and teaching/coaching effectiveness.

 

 

Dr. Samuel L. Hodge

Samuel R. Hodge, Ph.D., Professor, Kinesiology, Department of Human Sciences in the College of Education and Human Ecology, The Ohio State University. Dr. Hodge is a former coach of intercollegiate athletics and today his scholarship focuses on diversity, disability, and social justice in education and sport. He is co-editor of the book titled, Black Males and Intercollegiate Athletics: An Exploration of Problems and Solutions (Bennett, Hodge, Graham, & Moore, 2015) and lead author on an impressive number of other such articles. His expertise and scholarship serve to inform graduates within the Masters of Sports Coaching program on critical topics in sports and society associated with diversity, disability, and social justice.

Dr. Weidong Li

Dr. Weidong Li is a tenured Associate Professor at Department of Human Sciences at the Ohio State University. He received his Ph.D. in Sports Pedagogy in 2004 and a M.S. degree in Experimental statistics in 2003 from Louisiana State University. Dr. Li played basketball on middle and high school teams and had an extensive training in Basketball at college. He has volunteered to coach basketball and soccer at Dublin Basketball and Soccer Leagues. He has been teaching KNPE 5521 skill analysis since 2008 and is currently working on a textbook on skill analysis.

 

Dr. Sue Sutherland

Dr. Sutherland’s scholarly interests are in the areas of Adventure Education and teacher preparation. She has presented numerous times at International and National conferences in the areas of Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education.  Dr. Sutherland received the Program Recognition Award from the Adapted Physical Activity Council of AAHPERD in 2005 for her work with The Adapted Adventure Sports Coalition. She also received a federal grant from the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services to work in the area of adventure based activities for individuals with disabilities.

 

Dr. Jackie Goodway

Dr. Goodway is a former international level gymnast and national level gymnastics coach. Her Master’s degree is in sports injury in elite gymnastics. Her primary research interests are on the developmental aspects of sport and motor development with a particular focus on sport and developmentally appropriate motor programs in young children.

 

 

Dr. Harry Lehwald

Dr. Harry Lehwald is a senior lecturer and works extensively with the PESPA undergraduates.  He was a collegiate track athlete at the University of Missouri where he received both his undergraduate and Masters degrees before getting his doctorate at the University of Kansas.  He has 10 years of teaching and coaching experience in public schools along with 14 years of intercollegiate coaching and over 21 years of working with undergraduate PESPA majors at 4 different institutions.  At OSU he teaches the foundational content courses, supervises field experiences and coordinates the PETE student teaching experiences.
