After reading through each other’s reflection it is clear there is both overlap as well as dissonance. All four of us said one of our narrative values to be integrity. However we each interpreted it a little differently. In my case integrity meant representing my family and myself as a person. Both Rob and Hydia took not lying to be integrity. I can see how this can be interpreted as integrity so I don’t disagree with their interpretation. There can be many interpretations on each narrative value. Dylan took integrity to be stability dedication as well. Again I can see how this is interpreted as integrity. This is why I like May’s theory. It allows us to judge our lives subjectively. This is why we each think our lives are meaningful by the way we live. Hydia and I also agreed on subtlety for being one of our narrative values for pretty much the same reason. We both said something along the lines that we didn’t want to have the limelight. However I compared my version of subtlety to my leadership style and how I would rather lead by example. Hydia used an example of her fitting into the crowd and that was her version of subtlety. Again we thought we were subtle for the same reasons but also a bit contrasting on how that narrative value applied to us. May’s theory of narrative values allows you be able to find meaning in your life in a number of ways. Many interpretations can be made but they all give meaning to your life as it pertains to you.
