Alyssa Marie Marquez Castillo is a 4th year Grad Student from Glendora, California studying at Ohio State. She is the recipient of the 2017-2018 Graduate Enrichment Fellowship.
Alyssa is currently working on flow cytometry, looking at immunomodulation of a novel compound. She is also working with uterotrophic assays on several novel SERMs and studies surrounding a specific protein.
Alyssa chose to work with the Phelps lab because of the welcoming environment. She gained a sense of the collaborative spirit of the lab and the diverse options for research during her rotations. Choosing a lab where she felt comfortable, valued, and meshed well with the current members was a deciding factor for Alyssa when finding a new “academic home.”
Alyssa likes how the research she does in the lab contributes to finding ways to better help patients with cancer. One of her favorite parts about being a member of the Phelps Coss lab is the ability to mentor and support new students in the lab.
Some of her favorite memories with the lab are the end-of-the-year celebrations, going through escape rooms and having dinner afterwards.
