Yearly Evaluation

Faculty are required to evaluate PhD student progress in writing on a yearly basis. The evaluation, to be completed in Spring Semester, completed using a form sent to advisors and students by the PhD Program Director. Forms are to be returned to the Program Director who will provide evaluation information to the PhD Subcommittee and the Graduate Studies Committee as required by the University. The evaluation will document student progress and achievement of PhD program goals as detailed below. In addition to the evaluation form, the advisor will also submit the student’s current CV or biosketch.

Meeting at least the minimum benchmarks below is required to remain in satisfactory academic standing and progression through the PhD in Nursing program. Students are encouraged to exceed these minimum benchmarks to optimally support individual scholarly and professional goals.

  1. Research
    1. Submission of at least one grant application
    2. Submission of at least two manuscripts, with at least one recognized as first author
    3. Scientific presentation of at least one paper or poster at a local, regional, or national conference
  2. Teaching (Required for GAANN and NFLP fellows; and for other students if relevant)
    1. Development as a teacher
    2. Classroom planning and management
    3. Student-teacher relationship
    4. Structuring and evaluating learning
    5. Evaluation of teaching (include Student Evaluation of Instruction, faculty evaluation, self-evaluation documentation for courses taught)
  3. Service
    1. Membership in at least one professional organization
    2. At least one guest lecture in a collegiate course in the College of Nursing or other department(s)
  4. Specializations and Honors (if applicable)
    1. Notation of Graduate Minor or Graduate Interdisciplinary Specialization
    2. Fellowships
    3. Awards and honors resulting from scholarly activities
  5. Current Curriculum Vitae
