G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: In short, my entire life plan revolves around global awareness and engaging with other cultures. My major, International Studies, clearly reflects this aim, as does my intended career path of Foreign Service. More specifically, I am planning to minor in Arabic and intend to study abroad in an Arabic speaking country to gain a more complete knowledge of and fluency in the language. Throughout my life, I hope that I will be able to increase my own knowledge of the world as well as the knowledge of the people around me.
  • Original Inquiry: In my college career, I hope to build on the solid foundation of research that I developed during high school. Particularly, I intend to become involved with political campaigns within Ohio, and by doing so gain knowledge of what the average citizen looks for in a leader. Additionally, this will give me hands on experience in the realm of policy making and persuasion of voters, both skills that I intend to use in my life.
  • Academic Enrichment: To begin with, I intend to gain academic enrichment through the higher level of classes that I will be taking throughout my time at Ohio State. These smaller classes allow greater connection with faculty and a greater level of understanding. Furthermore, I intend to apply for an internship with the Canadian Parliament, which will connect with my courses and allow me to develop knowledge in a practical setting.
  • Leadership Development: While in college, I intend to develop my leadership skills mainly through my extra-curricular activities. I am currently a member of the rugby team, and I believe that sporting endeavors are an excellent way of developing and maintaining leadership skills. Additionally, I am a member of the Model UN team, and hope to graduate on to more leaderships positions within that organization. Finally, I have a campus job working at Undergraduate Admissions, where I am currently honing my team-building skills as well as gaining insight into the workings of a university.
  • Service Engagement: One key aspect of service that I am devoted to is the idea of public service and volunteering in these areas. For example, a major interest of mine is grassroots campaigning for local political campaigns, and I hope to become more involved with this as my time at college goes on.

About Me

Hi! My name is Anthony Perrins, and I am a student at Ohio State University, majoring in International Studies, with a focus on International Relations and Diplomacy, and minoring in Arabic. I am specifically interested in the ways that states form policies toward each other, and the actual implementation of these policies. In the future, I intend to attend law school and then gain a position at either the US State Department or the British Foreign Office. This dual option is legacy of the fact that I am an immigrant to the United States from the United Kingdom, and have only lived in this country for four years.
