In order to select the top five products to move into the prototyping phase, a decision matrix was created. Seven different criteria metrics were used in order to compare each product against each other: originality, quality, practicality, user appeal, simplicity, innovation, and prototypibility. They were then assigned weights based on how important the team deemed them to be. For example, since each person only has a week to prototype the product, the prototypibility metric was given a weight of 9/10, which is extremely high since it is important. From here, every concept idea was graded for each metric by giving it a value from 1-10. Finally, the weights for each metric were multiplied by the grade and all summed up in order to determine the final score for the product. The products with the top 5 score would then protyped. The matrix that was created is shown in the table below:
