5 – Concept Screening and Scoring

The Overall Purpose for Concept Screening/Scoring:

The main purpose of looking at multiple designs for our AEV is to compare/contrast what materials, when combined together, would make a successful final product of our AEV and would successfully transport people from Lindon to Easton and Polaris. We were able to compare our individual AEV designs to a given sample (reference) AEV design, which proved to be a stable system, but not a creative or energy efficient system.

Concept Scoring:

Concept Scoring allowed us to look at our individual designs and the reference design and compare/contrast the five success criteria that will play an important role in the final product of our AEV. We were able to determine that Jakob’s design would not be successful due to its poor durability, safety and stability. Also, Ella’s design would not be successful due to its poor maintenance, durability and stability.

Concept Screening:

Concept screening allowed us to eliminate Ella’s design based on the fact that her safety, maintenance, and minimal blockage were worse than the reference design. Therefore, her design would not successfully transport people from the two communities.

Final Decision:

We desire to have our AEV be as safe, as stable, and as durable as possible in order to successfully transport citizens between the communities. Therefore, the two AEV concepts that will be carried forward towards the final design of our AEV will be some aspects of Joey’s design combined with some aspects of Carly’s design. These designs will allow for better durability, stability, and minimal blockage, with potential for improved safety, for the final product of our AEV. For reference, the individual designs as well as our team design can be found here: Creative Thinking Stage
