About Me

Gianna Paterniti is a first year International Affairs scholar at The Ohio State University. She is currently in the University Exploration program but hopes to pursue a major in which she can incorporate her skills and interests. Gianna grew up in Chesterland, a small suburb outside of Cleveland, Ohio. Throughout high school, she participated in activities such as Interact, student council and coaching youth cheerleaders in her community. Gianna enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and playing guitar, piano and singing. She is very excited to meet many new people at OSU and take advantage of the many opportunities the university has to offer.

Spanish Minor

My first composition for my first spanish class at Ohio State was about my ideal trip. I wrote about a trip to Costa Rica, a spanish speaking country I have been to before and hope to visit again. This is important to me because one of the most significant parts of my first semester at OSU was deciding to pursue a minor in spanish. Taking this spanish class has helped me make that decision because it has confirmed my interest and skills in spanish that I discovered I had while taking the class in high school. I really enjoy this class and writing this composition because I was able to write about an experience that was important to me and use my skill of knowing another language that I am excited to perfect during the next four years. I think knowing another language is very helpful and makes me a more interesting and well-rounded person. As an exploration major, the thought of deciding what to study has been very overwhelming. This decision has given me a slightly clearer path for my next four years. I am also planning on applying to the Fisher College of Business and I know that minoring in a foreign language is a good compliment to a business major. This is a big part of my story as a learner and I am hoping one day I can use this skill if I return to Costa Rica, this time possibly studying abroad, and that it will give me a competitive edge down the road when I am pursuing a career.
