Year in Review

G.O.A.L.S.

In an attempt to achieve global awareness at The Ohio State University, I plan on embracing my personal culture by joining The Ohio State Raas Team. This is a student organization that cultivates Gujarati Indian heritage by means of traditional dance. I am hoping that this engagement will shape my leadership development after some experience on the team. As a student, I would also like to explore the deaf and hearing community by taking American Sign Language classes and furthering this engagement by joining the Deaf-Hearing club at OSU. Additionally, I have a strong desire to pursue study abroad opportunities over spring vacation during my third year here in either my major or my minor.

In order to build academics into the reality of a career, original inquiry is also a goal. I have always been fascinated with microbiological research and pathogen transmittance and prevention. To fulfill the Honors and Scholars goal of original inquiry, I will try to get involved with one of the many research opportunities presented on campus as soon as I can. Aside from research, I will enroll and further my understanding of these topics through honors courses in both microbiology and genetics.

With regards to academic enrichment, I want to explore a variety of interests. As of right now, my passion lies in molecular genetics, and for this reason, I am majoring in it. However, I want to explore other areas of study that I have never been exposed to in high school such as computer science and business, and possibly attain a minor through one of these. This idea of exploration is something I am also considering with my GE courses. This semester, I am taking my second writing requirement in a course about Art Education. This has no relation to my major, but I am thoroughly relishing the opportunity to become learned in this practice.

Throughout my life, I have consistently valued time spent helping others. I have personally witnessed hardship that can befall anyone at any moment in time, and truly think that the best way to serve society is through donation of time and heart. In high school, I set a goal for myself to make time for service at least once a week for all four years. I aspire to do the same while at OSU. Service that I would particularly become involved with is volunteering at the Wexner Medical Center and plan to apply for this next semester. The hope is that this too will eventually lead to the development of leadership skills for me.
