Year in Review

As my first year at Ohio State has come to a close I reflect on all of the experiences and opportunities provided to me along the way. My first semester was definitely a big adjustment while learning skills both in and out of the classroom. Being apart of HSS provided me with a family away from home. I made an incredible group of friends early on who are supportive of both me and my future aspirations. Living in a community in which all individuals have similar goals and career paths was very beneficial. This environment made me feel comfortable when I officially decided to switch my major at the end of this semester from Health Sciences Pre-PA to Psychology. I am looking forward to taking psychology courses this upcoming school year. I got involved early first semester with BuckeyeThon. I was the team captain for the HSS team and found a true passion of mine here at Ohio State. I was able to strengthen my leadership skills through the BuckeyeThon events. I am hoping to continue BuckeyeThon my sophomore year, and to potentially join general body. I am looking forward to my second year at Ohio State now that I have fully adjusted. I am excited to grow more as an individual through the service project and to strengthen my skills outside of the classroom.

About Me

Hi my name is Sonya Patel and I am a freshman at The Ohio State University. I’m from Powell, Ohio. In high school I was on my schools tennis team and I participated in several leadership clubs. I hope to continue activities like these and others at OSU. I also volunteered at both Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Riverside Methodist Hospital. My senior year of high school I was involved in a mentorship class at my school. Through this course I was able to gain an insight into a few heath care professions. I shadowed numerous dietitians, nurses, and even a pediatrician. These opportunities allowed me to narrow my career choice options in order to ultimately determine which one will be best suited for me. I am still unsure of what exactly I want to do with health sciences but I am super excited to explore even more professions.
