Perspective – Process

Process to the Perspective Project

In the start of the class, we learned how to use geometric shapes to help us with larger drawings. We did an activity where we had to draw the things and shapes set up in front of our table. I used lines and circles/ ovals to make the shapes from the things on the table in my perspective. This is the picture of how I drew it, and how it turned out.

We then did an activity where we had to draw an object and cut it out. I drew a candle for this activity. And re-draw it on a paper to make a pattern that shows the movement principle.

This is the drawing from the day, we were supposed to draw what we see. For this drawing, I sat in front of the building but a little on the left side, and tried drawing with that perspective. But I didn’t have enough knowledge about one or two point perspective at that time, so it didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to be.

For the final project, I started off by drawing this grid for the room. I drew the grid on the drawing paper and had different tracing paper layers on top with different ideas.

This is the very first idea that I created on sketchbook digitally. I wanted a slanted window wall for sure, so that is the first thing I drew and set up a study table with a chair and a furniture for storage space.

I sent my digital drawing to my professor for a review and he sent it back with corrections with the red lines with a brief review of what I should do to fix it.

– I then started looking for inspiration for a tilted wall online, and couldn’t find one that I was assuming. So I decided to put a tilted wall and want to add some kind of lighting, plants and windows. So I started sketching them out.

On the first layer of tracing paper, I started by drawing the slanted wall on the left side by using the one point perspective.

Then, I drew a space on the front wall where I can feel comfortable and place things that can give a personal touch to it. For example the plant and photo frames. I really like little plants in a space like this which can be used for decorating purposes and gives the natural vibe. I also made a window above a comfy sitting area where I can sit with throw pillows and take fresh air and spend time alone. I then created two drawer like spaces on both sides of the wall for storage purposes.

I then added textures to the wall on the right. I really like the idea of wooden textures sticking out of the wall. It gives the walls a unique look and makes them stand out.

Then on the other tracing paper, I started drawing the things we have to include for the project. I used this table as a work space area and a comfy rounded chair to sit on. I also included a television, which can also be used as a computer because it is placed right above the desk. I really love fairy lights and so I tried including them on the top of the wall but later changed the decision because I didn’t want it to be all over the place.

Then I decided to put the fairy lights only on one wall, so I get to keep them without consuming too much space. I then drew a large horizontal space for live plants and placed it near the window wall. As I mentioned earlier, I love plants in my personal space as they give me natural vibes and fresh feelings. I made a particular type of plant which normally doesn’t need a lot of water to maintain or grow. These are a kind of plants that only needs to be watered once every two to three weeks. I used these plants because due to busy schedule sometimes I do not get time to water them and sometimes I also feel very lazy to do so. I placed them near the window wall because it looks attractive decoratively and also because they can get direct sunlight everyday. I then used curvilinear shapes to create the rug in the middle which later I thought didn’t match because of it’s shape so ended up changing it to a geometric one.

This is how my final drawing looks like after I outlined it with a black pen and also used line weight for detailing and textures. My purpose was to not fill the space with too much furniture and make it look the right size with not too much open space neither too crowded. So, I made everything a particular size instead of adding too much or too little furniture. I also didn’t add too much artificial lights because since I have so much space for natural light, I don’t think it would be necessary to include a whole lot of artificial lighting.

Point, Line, Plane – Process

Given Description:

In this project, we explored how the elements and principles of design areused as organizational and communicative tools. Starting from a historical perspective on this idea and process, we investigated and further created strategies for conveying meaning and intentional experiences in our design work.

In class, we started the exercise by drawing and cutting the shapes of squares, triangles and circles in different sizes of 2, 1.5, 1, and 0.5 inches. Drawing part was easy for me as I used tools like ruler to measure and draw lines. I used a compass to draw circles which helped

According to the exercise, we then started drawing six boxes which were later used to put shape cutouts on to  make different designs.

These are the designs that I came up with by using different shapes in different sizes. I drew them on the tracing paper so that it is easier to re-draw the boxes as many time as I need. And to trace the shapes.

Then I outlined the shapes that created a visible bigger image in themselves. And labeled them with the principles that I think they are in.

Then we moved forward with an exercise where we created two different designs using the shapes we cut. One design I made was curvilinear and one was geometric. We also had to include a line and a dot to make them feel dynamic or static. I placed my shapes in such way where they can look either dynamic or static.

Then I cut 8×8 inches white bristol paper, and used the shapes to draw my designs on a black bristol paper. Then I cut the shapes and stick them on the white paper to make it look exactly like my digital version.

Then I labelled each piece of craft with the principle I used and a descriptive term.

Then for the final project I started with using shapes in unique sizes with a principle in mind to create a design with positive and negative spaces. I started with using principles like unity and harmony and then as I started building more into it, I discovered different principles that made more sense.

This is the design I presented in class, where we all discussed it as a group and I got reviews of how I can use different principles to describe it. I also got suggestions to change the part in the middle to make it look more of an unity.

This is the design I created, using my peers’ suggestions. That is when I started using another shapes to create something more unique with different principle.

This is what I ended up with for my final project. I used triangles and squares to create this design. I started making it with unity principle in mind and then I discovered movement as a principle as the shapes created an additional shape of arrows which shows movement. I used direction as my descriptive term to describe this design.

Then I started making the negative space design on an 8×8” bristol paper. I started with setting my digital design into 8×8 cm and used the dimensions to create my 8×8 inches design on paper. I then cut out the outline of shapes to create my final project.

While, I was cutting the cutouts, I accidentally ended up cutting off the line, So I had to re-do the whole design on a new paper then cut it out again.

I finally cut the white part as a whole and used glue to stick it on the black 8×8” bristol paper. This is my final outcome for the project.

I then wrote the descriptive term “Direction” and principle “Movement” on the back of my project.
