Checkmate – Process

Understanding + Brainstorming

– Me and my partner started to brainstorming for the themes that we can use, and that’s when I realized that we are both interested in Interior design major. And since that is something common between us, we can use that as our overall narrative. And divide it by Commercial bs Residential interior design.

– We then focused on the silhouettes of furniture and buildings that we can use in order to make our pieces.

– We decided to make our own board, where one square would be black cardstock and the other one would be a square piece of mirror. We also wanted to use acrylic to create wall like structure, and arrange them in a way that looks like a floor plan as shown in the last photo.

Iterations + Building

– I roughly started drawing pieces that I wanted to include for my side of chess (Commercial).

– And wanted to arrange them in a way that they look like an actual floor plan.

– These are the silhouettes, I experimented with and got to iterate. I didn’t have enough time due to a long waiting line at laser cutting and so I didn’t get to experiment with unique shapes. If I had more time to experiment different silhouettes, materials and designs it would be great for my process.

– The bases, I planned on using didn’t have thick enough cuts in them, so my pieces were hard to slide in them. So I decided to stick two bases front and back so that my pieces can balance and manage to stand on their own.

– I went to innovation lab for laser cutting and because of long line, zach asked me to leave my material there and he can cut my pieces of hours. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to cut my pieces until the day before the submission and so there was limited time option for me to fix or re-do my pieces.

Thank You For Your Time

Gifting Design – Process

Gifting Design

Mentor: Averi Wolf

Exercise:

– When we were introduced to the final project, we were asked to think of the best gifts we have ever received and what it means to us.

– I then started writing bunch of ideas that would be a good and thoughtful gift for someone.

Exercise Part 2:

– For this exercise, we were asked to create a container for a random object that we get to pick from class. I picked the light bulb, because I felt very connected to that object as my dad owns a lighting firm and I have always been around lights.

– I wanted to add humor, and make something that can actually be used. So, the moment I thought of a lightbulb, the idea emoji with light up bulb came to my mind. And I decided to make a white box and put the lightbulb in it, so once the light is plugged in, one can use it as a Lightbox (jewelry photography background).

– I then made a holder for the bulb and put humorous images and quotes on it.

Research:

– For the research I mostly tried making connections with my mentor by asking her a lot of questions and trying to know her more.

– Some of the things that I asked her was to introduce herself a little bit without me asking questions directly.

– Then I started asking her questions that might help me build the project into something that she would actually like and might like to use.

– The questions I asked her are

  • What is her favorite quote and why?
  • What is her favorite color?
  • Who is her role model and why?
  • What is her favorite candy?
  • What is her favorite food?
  • What is her aesthetic type and what kind of aesthetic attracts her?
  • I asked her to share her social media, so I can figure out what type of person she is from my perspective.

Iterations:

– This was my original plan, and I was thinking to make a pop up surprise box with a vision board like design which can include a t-shirt with her favorite quote, her pictures and goals to remind her everyday.

Iteration part 2:

– After I presented the surprise pop-up idea to Camille and Deb, they suggested that it might be too much to work with in the limited time and limited material categories.

– So I decided to make something that would contain less material, and would be multiple things that she can relate to and enjoy using.

– I then decided to make a cloth clutch bag with a handbag chain made by repeated design and cut with laser cut with a personalized journal for Averi, because she mentioned that wanted to start journaling, and I wanted to create a clutch bag because I know she is very much into Fashion, and might like using a clutch bag.

– But because of the time and material limit, I had to drop the idea of making a clutch turn into a handbag by adding the chain. So I decided to work only on the clutch bag.

Construction:

Sketchbook

– I started to think about a good front cover design for the sketchbook, meanwhile I was checking out Averi’s social media page, and saw a post with this photo with a different quote on it.

– I then thought, that it would be a great idea if I can put the same photo and change the quote to her favorite quote and write her name on the bottom so that it feels even more personal.

– This is something I wanted to put on the back design but due to material limitation, I decided to make the back of sketchbook look the same as clutch bag by using the same material.

Clutch:

– These are some of the fabric options I looked at for the clutch bag. I mostly wanted to use a cloth that can go with her desired aesthetic.

– I wanted to use the Ohio State printed cloth, because Ohio state is something common between both of us. But I ended up sending her all the options and she picked a cloth that she liked the most. To keep it a surprise, I didn’t tell her what I was going to do with the cloth and just asked for her opinion regardless.

– I then folded the fabric inside out and stapled the sides I wanted to sew to make the clutch.

– I researched bunch of diy clutches online an created my own design with the simpler techniques.

– I then sew my clutch bag with the help of sewing machine at innovation lab.

Final:

Thank you for your time and attention!

Dynamic Pages – Process

Exercise:

– In this exercise, we had to listen to different instrumental music and draw what we think it sounds like. It was basically about bringing what we hear to life by making it visual on paper.

– I used unique shapes and lines to draw what I felt the music look like in my imagination.

Research:

– As a class, we took a small tour to the Thompson Library art museum room. We saw unique mechanism pieces and a lot of us took inspiration from those.

– These are a few pictures of the mechanisms that I found most interesting. I also took bunch of videos to later figure out how they were created and how they work.

Exercise 2:

– We practices a paper mechanism by making a frog card in class.

– For homework we were to make two paper mechanisms. I made a pop up card that looks like stacked gifts and a pull tab mechanism with kind words on them.

Partnered Collaboration:

– My partner in this project was Sharon Longdong. And the first thing we were asked to do for the project was to find an instrumental music for inspiration to this project.

– I and Sharon both enjoyed listening to calm nature music and started listening to different music that had natural vibes and sounds like birds chirping, rainfall, etc.

Part 1: Music Draft

– We then decided to go with a calm music https://youtu.be/8GFi6Knz6gc .

Part 2: Narrative

– We then started to think of a narrative, so that we can base our project on the story. We both were having hard time to come up with a story we both liked and that also matched with our music.

– So, I suggested to use a story that already exist and we can make changes if needed to make it our way. And because I am a huge fan of Disney princesses, I suggested to combine bunch of Disney stories and use part of the music from story we show for our final project.

– We immediately started thinking of our favorite Disney princess movies and what mechanisms we can make with it.

– We wanted to make a Disney story book that has different mechanism after every page flips. But we realize we didn’t have that much time and we should stick to one story and create different scenes from the same movie.

– We decided to switch our music to the Disney intro music https://youtu.be/kzYfRLMtP9c

– We decided to create three iconic scenes from the story “Cinderella”. We decided to each work on one and create the third one together. The scenes we chose were the dress change scene, castle, and the shoe drop moment.

Construction Iterations:

– We together tried bunch of mechanisms that we can use to show the story. We ended up deciding that we both should do a castle pop up collaboratively and a scene each individually.

– Sharon wanted to do a pull tab shoe reveal scene.

– I wanted to do a spin the wheel mechanism for the dress change scene.

– I couldn’t get the idea of the pull tab with flipping pages mechanism that I made during the exercise. So, I decided to make the dress change scene using that mechanism technique.

Mask Up – Process

DESCRIPTION:

Design and construct a three-dimensional masking form or body augmentation. We were asked to create a narrative to establish ideas that will help refine decisions in form, material, action (performance) and meaning. The narrative will address the theme of masking as related to a pandemic. We were asked to work collaboratively in teams of two. And given the responsibility for creating our own composition (although some teams may choose to fully share all assignment responsibilities), but the narrative that we use has to be a collaborative idea. In final presentation, we were asked to present our work together as an unified concept.

NARRATIVE DRAFT:

– First of all Me and My partner Carter Teal started to think of a Narrative. We started with analyzing what should our concept statement be like and what we should include.

– Then I thought of an idea for the narrative, including an issue of social judgements and assumptions. Since my last project had a similar concept, I thought to carry it further through this concept.

– The first concept statement I came up with was to make two masks that are layered. The mask on top has writings all over it that shows society’s judgements and assumptions. The mask underneath made of layered plastic like clear/milky material which indicates the message of clarity and shows the truth that we want to share about us in public. After taking off both the masks, the person should be seen as who they truly are inside and out.

EXERCISE:

– We started the assignment by talking about the description. When I first heard about this project, I automatically assumed that the mask would make the best sense if it was made of the face area. Keeping the current pandemic situation in mind.

– So, we started off by drawing each other’s portraits. Including front and side view of full face.

– First picture is how professor Deborah taught us to draw portraits. And rest of the pictures are the portraits me and my partner Carter Teal, drew of each other. And started labeling ideas for our narrative.

– Professor Deborah asked all students to create origami balloon. To show us an example and differences of origami and kirigami.

– In this exercise we were asked to create a mask in given period of time (20 minutes). But we were also asked to make the mask with a narrative about what pandemic has done to our lives and how it has affected. So I made a mask slightly similar to the use and throw masks we used during covid 19. I then drew a night sky scene to show how I became a night owl during quarantine. Drew a landscape to show that I enjoyed and appreciated outdoors and nature more. And a sleepy emoji to show that I really got good sleep during the pandemic. For the inside I actually cut the mask in my preferred shape and attached it to the card stock, so it feels comfortable when wore. I particularly chose this shape for the mask keeping facial shapes in mind, like cheeks and nose. I wanted something that doesn’t cover nose entirely and is easy to breathe and is not a problem with glasses on and isn’t loose from the sides.

– Then we were asked to switch our masks with our partners and have the partner work on the mask to completely change it and make it into something else with a unique narrative.

– This is the mask my partner came up with by the end of this exercise.

– I made this mask, that covered entire face and was focused on the eyes. While we were asked to work on this exercise, me and my partner were discussing the narrative about social judgements and so I decided to work with it and create something unique.

– I took her mask and created a shield like cover for it that covers the entire face. I then drew question marks around the shield. I focused on the eyes and put a clear material over her mask, to make it look foggy and gets harder to view the drawn images on her actual mask.

– I decided to focus on the eyes because earlier Deborah mentioned that eyes can say a lot of things without saying them. It can show someone’s true personality and is like a window to the person’s soul. I made it look foggy and hard to view the images to show that from far away you cannot truly judge a person. It takes time to know and understand a person, and so we shouldn’t judge someone by the physical appearance. I drew question marks symbolizing her unknown personality. Mostly showing that the person behind the mask can be someone who is different than what you have been assuming.

NARRATIVE ITERATIONS:

– Continuing with the social assumptions and judgements narrative, me and my partner came up with multiple ideas of masks. We were thinking of making an armor like body covering mask that has bunch of keys (assumptions written on them) hanging to it and a unique material used near the heart area which has a lock. There has to be one unique key in the armor that opens the opposite partner’s armor’s lock, unlocking the assumptions and getting to see the reality of the person’s personality. So we could create a connection and be able to show the narrative and how it can help throughout the pandemic.

– For some reason, my partner really wanted to work with a hypothetically build pandemic. So, I discussed her about an idea of radioactive waves that can affect a body part inside the skin, and we use the armor to protect us from the vibration as well as from the judgements.

– Carter than came up with the idea of radioactive vibrations that makes sounds abnormally loud and hard to hear. So she suggested that we change our entire pandemic and the mask idea we had. We didn’t have much time to do that so I decided to trust her ideas and start working on building the project.

– I gave couple of draft ideas for design of the mask covering ears and mouth. Ears should be covered by a headphone like design to show that they work as filtering and lowering the volume. And similarly have a microphone like device in front of the mouth that helps lowering the volume while talking so it’s helpful for the person listening without the headphones.

Construction:

– I decided to use maxium numbers of wires in this project because wires is one of the first things that comes to mind when we hear terms like vibrations, radioactive waves, etc.

– I started building my ideas on paper, so that I can explain it better to my partner and help her understand my point.

– In order to make the head sets, I and my partner decided to cover a hair-tie bun into a thin tights leggings and wrap it with wires. We chose to do silver and green wires. Silver representing hearing part while the green represents talking.

CONSTRUCTION ITERATIONS:

– We decided to use left over leggings to use on a circular cut foam to make the microphone part of the mask. I had many iterations with what to do with the microphone part, because I and my partner divided work by assigning me to make a fancier microphone and carter to make fancier headphone set to show the connection part.

– Carter and I ended up agreeing to use plastic sheet and creating a spiral coming out of microphone part along with the wires to show the filtration process of sound.

– I laser cut these templates that I drew for the project. I used the spiral template to create the sound filtration part of the microphone.

– I cut three triangles and built them to place on top of the headset. The purpose of this was to show a unique shape that can be used as sound controlling buttons as well as work as balancing materials for the mask.

Final Outcome:

– I used plastic cut outs and wrap it with green wire that connects the headset and microphone together making it one whole mask.

– I used hair-ties behind earphone design to lock it on the ears for comfortable wearing experience.

– The push pins on the front of microphone symbolizes buttons that can adjust the volume. And it also holds the wires and spiral together perfectly on the foam circle.

COMPLICATIONS AND TAKE AWAYS:

– I personally think that I and my partner lacked communication throughout the project.

– Because we changed our narrative very late during the project, I thought we decided to make one mask and just work on two different parts of it as connection. But two days before the submission due date, my partner asked me to make a different one of my own just focus more on the microphone part. Since she brought all the materials, it was fair for her to ask me to start the project all over again to make a piece of my own. I asked her to send me pictures of how her final project turns out so I can make sure mine is similar in terms of scale, so it’s fair to show the connection. But for some understandable reasons she was unable to share photos or discuss the rest of the project with me until the due date. I somehow ended up creating the entire project from scratch in 2 days and was able to present it on time but didn’t get a single minute to compare it with my partner before the presentation.

– My take away from this project is to work ahead of time and communicate clearly. I understand that one can only clap with two hands and it takes two people for a good or bad communication. I have to figure out my mistakes that I made during this partnered project and make sure I don’t repeat those for future projects. I enjoyed working with Carter and really appreciate all the ideas and work she has put in for the project. Her hard work and genius ideas are something I will look up to. I am thankful for everything this project has taught me.

Layering Space – Process

                      Layering Space

Design Foundations 2130

Description:

In this assignment we were asked to construct a composition using paper layering techniques to emphasize and exaggerate a sense of depth and space. The concepts we explored were to extend from techniques explored Autumn term (perspective, layering, scale and other principles), adding an encompassing narrative.
We created a composition in black, white, grey scale cardstock that visually
illustrates the space, using a minimum of 5 flat layers of paper to explore the principle of scale to convey foreground, middle-ground, and background.

Research:

  • Started with the concept statement
  • Researched some pictures from realistic pictures on the internet and cited them

Concept Statement Rough Draft-

My number one concern for this assignment is to create a design in certain way to make the image look deep not just to me but also for the audience. So changing curves and lines inside my chosen design is the challenging part, especially using the pen tool on illustrator. Using . So, for my final project I would like to start off by selecting a color scheme with grey card stock and layer them within a chosen color theme. Then I would decide on what design I want on which card stock and decide their arrangement on the paper individually to bring out the intended look. Depth for me is something dark, something that goes deep inside. The thought of depth scares me but there are things that represents depth and are beautiful visually. I want to show something beautiful visually but make it seem deep and scary by applying depth and color scheme to it. For example, a rainbow. Using scale and sizing my design individually on each cardstock, is what I am going to use to create depth with the color to create scene. I want to connect the design together in certain way that even if one part is missing, it still shows the depth and the message.

Sketchbook – Process

DESCRIPTION:

In this project we were to explore how narratives play a role in helping designers communicate. Ideas are communicated and supported with a variety of visual (and non-visual) strategies, methods, and styles. Which often begins with the practice of mapping out our ideas in a “simple” sketchbook.

For our assignment purposes, a sketchbook is a “book” of or for drawing or literary sketches. It provides a space to work-out and hold ideas. We will revisit this traditionalbook form by constructing our own sketchbooks for use throughout the term.

– Class Exercise: Mini Sketchbook (Answer the following question through mind mapping).

  • We started with doing some mind mapping activities, by drawing inside circles in a certain amount of time.
  • In the beginning of this project, we were asked to choose a question and answer it by using the entire mini sketchbook and mind mapping techniques.
  • I started by choosing the question “How to live your best life”.
  • Then I constructed a mini sketchbook and drew a little drawing of mountains and trees labelling it as paradise.
  • I then wrote the question as the title of my sketchbook, but with a twist. I crossed out the “your” from the question and replaced it with “my” so that I can relate the question to myself, and answer the question using fully my own perspective.
  • After that I started thinking of categories that I think helps me to live my best life. So, I made three categories; Favorites, Dreams and Responsibilities.
  • I wrote each category on the middle of two pages and used the page to describe whatever comes in that category related to my life.
  • Example: Dreams: Traveling to Paris, Favorites: Painting, Responsibility: Study what I enjoy learning.

– Exercise 1: Mini Sketchbook; Mind Mapping

  • We were asked to construct another mini sketchbook, and start filling it out with the ideas for our actual sketchbook.
  • I started off with designing my cover page. I wanted to make a logo for the center of the sketchbook. I also decided what color theme and material I should use. I wanted to use a Boho theme, which is a color scheme using shades of brown or nude colors, in natural term it is more like dried leaves or grass.
  • I then decided to include a calendar and notes page in my sketchbook for important due dates and projects.
  • For the surprise page, I wanted to do something unique and extra-ordinary, so I decided to use a polaroid camera to take pictures of my building process and include left over materials to show and write my building process inside the sketchbook.
  • To finish it up, I included the required information in the middle of the page and decided what material to use and how to make it unique, by adding borders.

Research:

  •  I wanted to add floral designs to my project and so I read this Taschen book named “ Florigellum” and took some inspiration from the pictures in it, to create floral designs for my logo and borders.
  • I also researched deeply about boho theme and colors, to get more knowledge of the material I can use for the project. I wanted to use this unique theme and show it throughout my project, so I selected material and binding technique according to the boho theme.

  • I researched deeper on the materials that I should use, and created a page to page journal using notibility.
  • I then, shared ideas with my instructor and got his review on how I can use the laser cutter to create this project.
  • I decided to use different materials throughout my sketchbook, for diversity and uniqueness.
  • I also started hand drawing the design for my front and back covers. Including borders, title logo, etc.
  • Learned etching and cutting techniques for laser cutting by watching videos and asking professor for more help.

Iterations:

– Cover page (Logo)

  • When we were first introduced to this project, I immediately knew what I wanted to do for the cover page. I wanted to keep my sketchbook very minimalist, yet attractive.
  • So, I decided to create a logo and add border to keep it dainty but eye-catching.
  • I knew exactly what to put on my logo. Which was “Dada Arts by Helly Patel”.  Dada means Grandpa in my mother tongue Gujarati, and I am very close to my grandpa, and believe that everything I do for success has to start with his name. I make paintings and write dada arts by helly to sign them. My late grandpa inspires me to make designs everyday that would make him proud and bring success to me.
  • So since I wanted to keep it minimal, I decided to make a logo using minimalist forms of natural patterns using leaves and flowers.
  • The first picture shows how I started designing the logo. That logo felt incomplete to me and I wanted to add something more.
  • So I added a circle around the text and filled it with a pattern created by using different forms. But when I laser cut the design, It didn’t look as clear because of the scale it was in and the design of feather.
  • I then, decided to rescale it and add forms that are more clear to view when laser cut.
  • So the last picture is what I ended up designing. I wanted to use a wood/plywood for the boho theme and etch the logo on it and vector cut it out  in a circular shape.

– Cover page (Border)

  • After researching and drawing bunch of veils, flowers and leaves; I ended up finalizing these two borders for the final project.
  • I had many iterations of placing the borders in certain way for it to look most affective.
  • The one on the left was my first idea for the final sketchbook front cover, But I realized that it doesn’t look as appealing and minimalist as I want it to be.
  • So the picture in right is what I ended up creating for my final front and bacl design.

Construction and Final Outcomes

  • I had to use the laser cutter multiple times to try out what will work and what wouldn’t. I tried different materials and scales to experiment with this project. So, I started with the logo and cut multiple times with different scales and materials and even tried to paint it.
  • I then decided to collect all the papers I wanted to recycle from my old sketchbook and combined different papers like sketchbook paper, Bristol paper, water color paper, and grey card stock. I cut them all in sizes of 8.5×11.
  • For the front and back cover, I decided to keep the side 9×12, so it’s larger and fully covers all the papers inside.
  • For the surprise, I decided to use my polaroid camera and record some of the iterations to put as a process on a paper, and add fairy lights on it for the surprise and uniqueness.
  • My original idea was to include a dry erase white board page, that can be used to write notes and due dates. But while I was taking pictures of my process, I ended up wasting exactly 3 polaroid films, and decided to use each for date, month and year as a dry erase board, where I can note the due dates. I placed it as a first thing in the sketchbook so that I can remember the due dates before I start my work.
  • I then wrapped it up with binding it all together. For binding, I used a rope like thread and did a very simple binding with it.

Manipulation and Communication – Process

Exercise:

– In this exercise, we were given different templates with dots for us to connect and create shapes.

– And then we were asked to create our own to practice using the pen tool on illustrator.

– Then Zach taught us how to draw letters with extension in order to create a 3rd dimensional look, so that we can use those techniques for the final project.

Research:

– These are the three word mashups I came up with for me to pick from for the final one.

Iterations:

– I decided to work with the word “Centerk”. But it just didn’t feel right, and I didn’t want to play with the friends theme for this project. So I decided to work on the Ohitate word.

– Ohitate – Ohio state visuals fan

– I submitted my final design as this word. But because I wasn’t able to make to class around the time of this project, I had to learn online which didn’t help me with the progress.

– After reading the rubric and comments from Zach, I decided to try something else and re-do the project.

– So I started working on the word “Dresign”.

– DRESIGN (DESIGN + DREAMS)= SOMEONE WHO DESIGNS THEIR OWN DREAMS.

– I started by choosing a font and then extrude it to seen how I like it.

– I then started working on picking a color for my design.

– Adding things I dream about was really important to me, so I added buildings, because I really like watching city skylines. And then I added colored shapes, a house silhouette and design materials like knife, glue and bristol.

– I used isometric grid to make give them an isometric tilt on y and x values.

Mandala – Process

Mandalas are an ancient form of designs originating from Hinduism. Which is why, I was very excited for this project. This project felt very culturally personal when it was first introduced to me. Researching more about it, I found out facts that I didn’t know before as a Hindu. Facts like Mandalas are used as a form of design for mental peace in hinduism is very fascinating to me.

Exercise 1:

For the first process, we were asked to collected 10 natural forms and 10 human-made mechanisms. Using digital applications and hand drawing techniques we were asked to draw different patterns in each row. The things we were asked to draw were:

Row 1: Photograph of natural or human-made/synthetic form (cite your sources)
Row 2: Proportion, Scale with Shape: Identify size and basic shape
relationships Row 3: Direction- identify movement (linear, radial, other) of
components
Row 4: Components- identify segments of parts or groups of parts that are unique from
each other (shape)
Row 5: Value and Color: identify areas of value and/or color change

Space and Time Walk- Process

Process of the path to walk with desire.

Ideas:

– At first when I heard about this project, I immediately thought of a location near the statue of Thompson behind the library. The location I chose was a tiny concrete wall, where students are often seen sitting and chilling. I then walked to the location and realized that it isn’t as comfortable as I thought it would be. So I looked around and notices sets of tables and chairs places near the statue, where students were studying and hanging out. The space felt very cozy and perfect to chill at. So, I decided to change my destination from the concrete wall to the sitting area near the Thompson statue.

– In class, we were given an exercise where we had to pick a location on campus as a group and decide different paths to walk on to note the journey and the experience. My group chose Mirror lake. The pictures above shows a written reflection of my overall journey to and from the Mirror lake. The bottom right picture shows the path we took. The one in black is the one we took from Hayes to Mirror lake. The yellow one shows the path from Mirror lake to back at Hayes hall.

Exercise:

– After the activities, I started looking at the paths that I would like to take for my destination. I looked at multiple paths but ended up finalizing main two because my main focus was to find a path that is full of experiences but short in walk. The two paths that I thought was most reasonable are in the picture above. I ended up deciding to take the path in blue because it felt easy and short. After that we did an activity in class, where we looked at different maps and noticed different things about it. I noted some things about the maps and looked at unique design ideas that I can use for my map.

– Then we were sent to different parts of Hayes hall, to notice and experience what we see, hear and feel. Me and my group were assigned the main lobby of the Hayes. I took notes of what I felt in the lobby and noticed some things that I didn’t see before. We explored different categories like color and lighting and used it to notice things in the given area.

Construction:

– Then we were sent to walk on our decided path and experience the feeling and notice what we see, hear and feel. Using pictures and my senses I noted down my experience on paper for exercise one. A poetic directions for my path. I also drew out my path and inserted pictures on the areas to give a feel of everything that one should notice while walking on the path. The last two pictures are the final version of my Poetic directions and written directions.

Part 4:

– The last thing I did was drawing practice and final drawing. In class we were taught different ways to use value with pencil. I practiced that and decided that I wanted to use value somewhere in my final outcome. I wanted to use texture as a part of my path, that can separate the path from other roads on the oval. So I cut out pieces of card-stock and drew my path, starting point and destination on it. I then put them down together and made my path. Looking at it, I decided to add color to the path for it to look more unique. Then, I drew out my path and rest of the roads on the oval, to make it look like a draft version of what I wanted on paper. I added nearby buildings on the side and used different symbols to show what I felt, saw and hear while I walked on the path. I drew out a similar drawing on paper and added details like squirrels, trees/plants, lines to represent grass, etc. At the end I used value shading and color to highlight my path and the drawing over all.

   Exercise 1 – Creating a perfect cube.

– The cube on the left was the cube that I constructed for the first time. I struggled with gluing pieces together because my tabs were really small. So, for the next attempt I made sure that the tabs are bigger for it to be easy to stick and created the version on the right. Then in class we made the digital version of what it looks like from different perspectives.
