Understanding + Brainstorming

– Me and my partner started to brainstorming for the themes that we can use, and that’s when I realized that we are both interested in Interior design major. And since that is something common between us, we can use that as our overall narrative. And divide it by Commercial bs Residential interior design.
– We then focused on the silhouettes of furniture and buildings that we can use in order to make our pieces.
– We decided to make our own board, where one square would be black cardstock and the other one would be a square piece of mirror. We also wanted to use acrylic to create wall like structure, and arrange them in a way that looks like a floor plan as shown in the last photo.
Iterations + Building

– I roughly started drawing pieces that I wanted to include for my side of chess (Commercial).
– And wanted to arrange them in a way that they look like an actual floor plan.

– These are the silhouettes, I experimented with and got to iterate. I didn’t have enough time due to a long waiting line at laser cutting and so I didn’t get to experiment with unique shapes. If I had more time to experiment different silhouettes, materials and designs it would be great for my process.

– The bases, I planned on using didn’t have thick enough cuts in them, so my pieces were hard to slide in them. So I decided to stick two bases front and back so that my pieces can balance and manage to stand on their own.
– I went to innovation lab for laser cutting and because of long line, zach asked me to leave my material there and he can cut my pieces of hours. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to cut my pieces until the day before the submission and so there was limited time option for me to fix or re-do my pieces.
