Linguistics Research Assistant

When I first learned I was going to be a research assistant, I was beyond excited. I was only a couple months into my freshman year, and I was already receiving an opportunity to do research!

During the first semester, our lab group learned how to run an eye tracker program in a psycholinguistics lab. Working the eyetracker included troubleshooting, Once we learned how to run that, the three of us ran experiments for three of the next four semesters.

As I progressed in my internship, I added more experiences under my belt over the next four semesters: I learned the basics of segmenting audio files and running a program on Praat, a program used for analyzing speech data. Our group continued to run experiments, and each semester’s data set was slightly modified from last.
