Phase Field/Finite Element Model for Shape Memory Alloys

We have developed a new model for the elastic and inelastic deformation modes in Shape Memory Alloys (SMA). This post gives a brief overview of the model.

Key goals and features of this model

  1. To model arbitrary martensite microstructures: PF based evolution law
for phase transformation (PT) and reorientation
  2. To get correspondence variant (CV) level stresses: Track individual CV’s
  3. To study PT induced plasticity: Crystal plasticity (CP) in austenite
  4. To incorporate arbitrary boundary conditions and large deformations: FE method to solve field equations
