G.O.A.L.S – Service Project

My service project had a theme of food where it combined my interest in baking and cooking with helping out those who are in need of a good meal. My goal was to work as a member of the Recipe 4 Good organization and volunteer at Ronald McDonald House and Manna Cafe by cooking and serving food that we made. I also worked on the volunteer committee of Recipe 4 Good to not only plan and execute service events at RMH and Manna Cafe, but also discovered new service opportunities related to food and provided general members more service events to attend. My project had a lot to do with engaging members of my organization to give back to the community by doing something that they love and provided people in need with food. I also volunteered at these locations outside of Recipe 4 Good with other organizations such as my business fraternity and other business organizations.

Do.

My friends and I went to Mad River and I got to ski for the first time. I was really nervous at first because I have heard a bunch of people injuring themselves on the slopes. We went on the bunny slope first and it was really exhilarating because I was going so fast. I didn’t know how to slow down or stop so I just went straight down really fast. It was scary but a lot of fun at the same time. I was able to learn how to slow down and stop and was eventually able to work up to the medium level slopes. While the fear has lessened, it is still there. Despite that, I can’t wait for the next time I get to go.

Go.

I had the opportunity to go to Stauf’s Coffee Roaster in Grandview. It was actually my first time in Grandview. I got a seasonal coffee called something like the Red Wedding. It had a bunch of different types of berries and it was combined with chocolate to replicate a chocolate covered strawberry. It was absolutely amazing. I’m not a big fan of coffee but when it has a bunch of sweet and unique flavors, I’m all up for it. Their menu is very extensive as it there a lot of unique blends. This place was a really cute cafe where people studied or hung out with their friends. I highly recommened this place and I can’t wait to come back.

Year in Review

My first year of college is almost over and I learned a lot about myself this year. There were parts of college that definitely met my expectations, but there were also moments where I didn’t expect college to be like. Coming into the Health Sciences Scholars program, I didn’t really have many expectations. I just expected it was going to be another way to meet new people and make friends, which did happen. I didn’t expect to learn so much about the health care field in the seminar.  A goal for my second year is to be more active in the HSS program and meet more people.

My most memorable service experience is community commitment day at the very beginning of the school year. At this event, I helped cook lunch. This was the most memorable because it was really nice to meet all the other health science scholars and make friends as well as serving the community in a fun environment. It taught me that community service is what you make out of it and it doesn’t have to be a drag because you can make it fun.

G.O.A.L.S. – Academic Enrichment

Information Interview

I had an interview with an upperclassman who is graduating at the end of the semester. He had a similar major and specialization as me as well as similar industry interests. He gave me a lot of advice and information about things I should be doing in my undergraduate career and what I type of job I should be looking for. For example, he told me that I should definitely get QUIC certified as soon as possible because it opens up a lot of opportunities for internships and connections. He also recommends a rotational program job that some companies offer right after graduation and told me the companies with the top rotational program. He explained that I should definitely take advantage of this opportunity if I am interested because it sets you apart from other entry-level employees and will eventually help further your career in the company. He also told me some companies who not only have great rotational programs, but also are prevalent in the healthcare industry, which is exactly what I am looking for. I definitely learned a lot from my interview with him.

Career

las-brisas-residences-street-view-duskPortrait of cute young business womanIMG_5907Through the previous assignments, I was able to fully utilize my first year experience at Ohio State University to the best of my ability. Firstly, I was able to get a better understanding of my major. The major exploration assignment definitely helped me get a better vision for my future and now I have an idea of what career options I can choose from and what to expect from those career options. Furthermore, I wasable to develop a backup plan incase I decide to change routes from my original plan. Not only did I learn about another major that I’m interested in, I was able to discover some career options that I could pursue if I ever decided to switch majors. I also found a way to balance school work, extracurriculars, and social life that best suits my lifestyle and personality. I learned that taking naps and hanging out with friends are great ways to relieve stress. However, I know how to manage my time well enough that I can fit in time for myself as well. I definitely think I’ll be able to continue this strategy because being able to time manage has made my first semester so much more enjoyable. In addition to utilizing the resources on campus, I have also learned that upperclassmen and faculty members are great resources as they are all eagerly willing to help out and give advice. Next semester, I hope to continue to utilize the resources on campus and staying healthy by balancing school work and other activities.

I was given the opportunity to go to SuperChef’s last weekend. This place is known for the delicious and unique variety of brunch foods. Ranging from basic pancakes to crazy waffle sandwiches, there’s definitely something new to try each time. I ended up getting a pancake stuffed with a scrambled egg inside and candied bacon. I was skeptical at first on how it would taste, but it was absolutely amazing and it completely satisfied my craving of wanting something sweet and salty.

About Me

IMG_6113

Hi my name is Adela Pang. I am from Dublin, Ohio and went to Dublin Jerome High School. In college, I hope to challenge myself just like I did in high school. I tend to learn the best by experience. I learn more quickly if I can learn from trial and error rather than reading from a textbook. I also find it much more interesting to learn through experience. I plan on majoring in business, specializing in finance, but I am definitely open to exploring my options. I have an interest in pursuing a business career in the medical field, especially health management. Some of my interests outside of school include dance, music, and cultural appreciation.
