STEM North Central State College— Spring 2018

  • Won a cash award from the Charles River Laboratory for my personal research paper and presentation about Turmeric’s effect with ingestible mediums of differing pHs at Ashland Science Fair, earned an excellence certificate for the project and scientific paper

Microbial Infections (Wozniak Lab)

  • Performed serial dilutions of antibiotics such as Tobramycin and Sulfonamide analogs for Pseudomonas Aeruginosa in relation to Cystic Fibrosis

  • Rapid Attachment Assay and Crystal Violet Staining of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa for quantification purposes on 96 well-plate with many technical replicates of bacteria

  • Generated different bacterial medias for research lab such as Lauria Agar (LA) and Pseudomonas Isolation Agar (PIA), plated media on agar plates

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital Shadowing: June 2018-August 2018

  • Achieved around 100 hours while observing medical staff in various departments such as radiology, short-term care unit, physical therapy, and catheterization laboratory. Observed and conversed with multiple healthcare professionals on CT scans, PET scans, and other such tests. Observed procedures such as injection of medical imaging contrast and spinal taps.

Dr. Kirit Pathak Clinic Volunteering (Vadodara, India): December 2018-January 2019

  • In addition to aiding patients by delivering needs such as meals and medications, I learned some unique medicinal practices from various health professionals. To clarify, I witnessed Homeopathic medicine where they utilize traces of active medicines from substances extracted from plants or minerals. These ingredients were then highly diluted, rapidly sucussed, and packaged in tiny sugar beads to stimulate the body to ward off pathogens. In Ayurvedic medicine, I observed a naturalistic healing approach by administration of herbal medicines such as turmeric. Although not commonly practiced in the United States, it was notable to compare these fields with Allopathic and Osteopathic medicine.

Pulmonology Shadowing: July 2019-August 2019

  • Shadowed 50 hours Sleep Medicine Specialist and Pulmonologist in Mansfield. Interacted and watched the doctor’s daily routine as well as meeting with new patients with several different backgrounds. Learned about BiPAP and CPAP, and the typical requirements for patients to operate them as well as the graphs from the machines that monitor a patient’s sleep.

Summer Camp Kesem Counselor: August 2018-Current

  • Current leadership role as a Camp Counselor for kids between the ages 6-10 for the Camp Kesem organization for one week in July. Adhered to a daily planned schedule for campers, who have unfortunately been directly or indirectly been affected by cancer, to enjoy and participate in outdoor activities such as swimming, ziplining, and campfires. Interacted, engaged, and socialized with counselors and campers alike to foster an immense, positive growth environment for the campers with activities such as Empowerment to empathize and provide emotional support for campers.

Social Media Officer for Buckeyes Against Alzheimers: Fall 2019-Current

  • Responsible for maintaining and distributing information regarding meetings and volunteering times on weekends, and coordinating with other officers on significant events such as Brain Health Awareness Day. Maintained an active role on social media such as Twitter; currently in the process of reforming certain social media platforms such as Instagram and Reddit for recruiting purposes.

ACTIVITIES

  • Camp Kesem: Part of the OOT (Outreach, Operations, CITeens) committee for camp planning (e.g. camp games and activities) and fundraising $500 dollars for campers. Attended several meetings for discussing and planning of events during the semester such as Christmas parties and get-together with campers.

  • OWL program (August 2018-Current): Assisted parents and other students with move-in day during the start of semester for three years, made connections and interacted with other OWL volunteers. Total Hours: 30 hours

  • Volunteering at the Olentangy Inn for Buckeyes Against Alzheimer’s club: Volunteered consistently on weekends for a total of 50 hours at a Alzheimers clinic where we played Bingo or other board games, conversed with the residents, provided lunch and other refreshments, performed arts and crafts on special days such as Valentine’s Day, and other such activities to bolster and keep the mind active for Alzheimer patients.

  • Biological Sciences Scholar (August 2018-Current): Volunteered 30-40 hours at the Wesley Glen Retirement Homes for elderly people throughout college. Attended mandatory meetings and maintained membership by attending 4 main biology-related events. Predicted Future Hours (2020-2021): 20-30 hours

  • Intramural soccer (August 2018-Current): Participated during the autumn and spring semester in Men’s League.
