Discussion #4

One aspect of my life that has changed over the past few months is my planned choice of major. I came into college as a math major mostly just because I kind of liked math and had no other ideas for things to chose as a major. I realized pretty quickly that this probably wasn’t the best plan for me as my math class wasn’t going very well. I had originally planned to be taking mostly STEM classes as that’s where my interests mostly lied coming into college. Now, I ended up dropping out of my math class and am currently signed up for mostly psychology based courses next semester, which is  drastically different from my starting plan at the beginning of the year.

I still have absolutely no idea what I want to do or major in and am just kind of randomly taking interesting sounding classes. So I pretty much am just hoping that I develop an interest in or passion for something specific that I can major in and point my life in that direction. So I want to continue my personal development by figuring out something that I like to do which will change my whole undergraduate experience because it will be a deciding factor in the type of classes and work I do throughout the rest of my college career. I can also continue my personal development by branching out with my interests and exploring all my different options so I can have a better chance of finding something piques my interest.

Year in Review

  1. In order to develop my global awareness, I have taken one global studies class. I want to study abroad to continue to work toward this goal and cultivate and develop an appreciation for diversity.
  2. I have not done any research thus far, but I plan to get involved in labs and research next semester for my major, and eventually go to grad school.
  3. My honors contracts demonstrates that I am going to take intellectually stimulating classes and programs. The planned curriculum relates to my future aspirations of doing psychological/statistical research because I am taking psychology, statistics, and research courses. The GE’s I am taking also apply to my major and offer me new perspectives on things. My selections demonstrate a commitment to excellence because I decided to take many rigorous courses.
  4. I am not involved in many activities. I plan to get involved with leadership activities to further my experience as a leader which will improve my personal and professional life.
  5. I am not involved in any service oriented activities. I plan to get involved with service oriented activities.
