My First Semester at OSU

Overall, I’m really enjoying Ohio State and I think that first semester went so much better than I expected it would. I was afraid of not making friends easily but I was able to find people I clicked with really quickly. I also got the hang of my schedule after a few days and got really close to my roommate so all of my expectations were exceeded.

I’ve also really enjoyed Arts Scholars so far. The majority of my friends are from the program and I don’t think I would’ve met them otherwise. I also love being able to see so many shows and having the opportunity to go on trips, it’s something I wouldn’t have the chance to do at all without Arts Scholars and I’ve already made great memories through them. It’s great to have a community on campus because even it’s so big Baker and Arts Scholars is something that I know and can come back to whenever I need to.

I know that I want to stay involved in Arts Scholars as much as I can, possibly by looking into being a big but also just by coming to the Family Meetings and taking part in as many activities as possible. I think being a big would be really fun, I would just need to think about time commitments and things like that. I’ve had a lot of fun in Art Scholars and at OSU this semester and can’t wait for the rest.

First week reflection

My first week at Ohio State went significantly better than I thought it would. When I visited at orientation I was overwhelmed by how big campus is and how easy it is to get lost. I was also nervous because though everyone in my orientation group was incredibly welcoming and nice, I knew there were slim chances I would see any of them once school started, so I was convinced making friends would take months and I would spend most of my time alone. However, I was able to make friends at the Honors and Scholars launch and have spent the last two weeks getting to know them better. I’ve also learned how to get to my classes and when to leave so I get to them on time. I knew I was going to miss my friends and family since this is one of the first times I’ve been away from them for a long period of time but after the first few days I adjusted and while I still miss them, it’s not what I’m constantly thinking about. Labor day being so close to the start of school also helped because I knew I would be able to visit my family after the second week of school.  All in all my first-week experience was so much better than I thought it would be, and I’m looking forward to spending more time with my friends, in class and experiencing everything OSU has to offer this year.
