Large Crabgrass; Digitaria sanguinalis


Family: Poaceae; Grass Family

Vegetative Characteristics: 

Seedling: Sheaths and blades usually densely hairy, membranous ligule. 

Stems: Prostrate, spreading, branched at the older nodes

Leaf:

      • Blade: usually hairy on both surfaces
      • Ligule: truncate with uneven teeth or margin
      • Sheath: Hairy, Closed

Reproductive Characteristics: 

Seed Head: composed of 4-6 branches each 4-18 cm long

Spikelets: 2-flowered; Subsessile to pedicelled

Glumes: First are minute and second are 1/2 length of spikelet and hairy.

Special Identifying Features:

Second glume 1/2 length of spikelet
