Vegetative Characteristics: 

Seedling: hypocotyl stout, green; cotyledons moderately indented with rounded lobes, outer margins parallel

Stems: climbing or trailing vine, to 2.0 m or more long, branched, loosely pubescent or tomentose; trichomes short, apressed

Leaves: alternate, 1.0-12.0 cm long, 1.0-13.0 cm wide, simple, cordate, margins entire or rarely 5-lobed, loosely pubescent, trichomes flat on leaf surface, petiole 1.0-14.0 cm long

Reproductive Characteristics: 

Inflorescences: axillary clusters of 3-5 in cymes, rarely solitary; sepals subequal, 8.0-17.0 mm long, 1.5-4.5 mm wide, outer ovate-lanceolate or elliptical, tips blunt; corolla 4.0-6.0 cm long, funnelform, purple or occasionally blue or white; with white center; styles 14.0-24.0 mm long; stigmas 3

Fruits: capsule, 1.0 cm diameter, subglobose, with 3 locules, often 6-seeded

Seeds: wedge-shaped, 4.0-5.0 mm long, dark brown to black, scar smooth

Special Identifying Characteristics: 

climbing or trailing annual vine; leaves cordate, pubescent, trichomes flat on surface; flowers purple or occasionally white; sepals short, tips blunt, pubescent
