Social Media Influencers, Case Study Three: Revolve

Created by two tech guys both named Michael, who never thought they would go into fashion, Revolve is one of the youngest and most successful fashion retailers in the industry valued at nearly $1.5 billion while traditional fashion department stores are uniformly declining. The strategy that sets them apart as a pioneer is social media marketing through working with a group of about 3,500 Instagram influencers like supermodel Kendall Jenner, providing vacation trips, festivals and other fun events for them to go and take pictures at. With its team of data analysts and engineering professionals, Revolve operates more like a tech company selling fashion rather than a fashion company selling fashion. In fact, according to the Los Angeles Times, Revolve’s “proprietary technology is ‘turning the fashion cycle from a predictive art to a data-driven science’ [which] investors reacted with enthusiasm.”
