The brothers of Phi Gamma Delta use our philanthropy event to foster awareness and unity for the Rick Smudz Fund, benefiting the Columbus Cancer Clinic. The FIJI Rivalry Run, in conjunction with other philanthropic events, encourages brotherhood and positively impacts our surrounding community.
The Rick Smudz Fund
In 2004, Rick Smudz, a brother of Phi Gamma Delta at Ohio State (1975), lost his battle with Stage 3 Melanoma. During his fight, Rick not only advocated for the fight against cancer, but he also dedicated countless hours to restoring his fraternity on Ohio State’s campus. Thanks in large part to Rick’s generous contributions, FIJI was re-chartered at Ohio State and provided a new house on 15th Avenue in 2004.
The Fund supports the Columbus Cancer Clinic, a branch of LifeCare Alliance. The clinic provides preventative screening measures and affordable procedures and treatment for families throughout the Columbus area.
