Communication Styles (October 5, 2021 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm)

Dr. Lauren Hensley, the Senior Associate Director of the Dennis Learning Center, presents a webinar on communication styles for postdocs. For better or worse, communication styles influence the way we perceive – and are perceived by – others. Understanding communication styles and strategically using them in different situations can enhance daily interactions as well as productivity and satisfaction as a postdoc. In this session you will learn more about what it means to have a supportive, emotive, reflective, or directive communication style. You will also brainstorm how to work effectively across different communication styles to bring about positive outcomes and manage conflict.

Resilience, Growth Mindset, and Optimism (October 12, 2021 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm)

Dr. Lauren Hensley, the Senior Associate Director of the Dennis Learning Center, will be presenting this webinar, which will help postdocs develop knowledge, behaviors and attitudes to boost resilience. You will learn about how to foster a growth mindset, replace automatic negative thoughts with motivating ones, and deal productively with adversity and setbacks. You will also discover how to become more optimistic by understanding the 3 P’s and the ABC’s.

Obstacles to Performance: Imposter Fears, Stereotype Threat and Microaggressions (November 9, 2021 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm)

Dr. Marcela Hernandez, the Administrative Director of The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, will be presenting this webinar. This session aims to create awareness about common phenomena that appear in academic settings and can be very harmful to your performance and that of the people you work with. We will explore the outcomes associated with the experience of imposter fears, stereotype threat and microaggressions, and discover techniques to minimize their occurrence.

Mentoring Up (November 16, 2021 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm)

Dr. Marcela Hernandez, the Administrative Director of The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, will be presenting this webinar. Succeeding in research is facilitated by helpful mentors. But this doesn’t mean passively following your mentors – you must proactively “mentor up” as you engage with your mentors. In this webinar, you will learn how to maximize your relationship with your mentor and to develop and use a Mentoring Action Plan (MAP) to navigate mentoring relationships to meet your goals.
