Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Diversity and inclusion are considered components of all the OPA programs and initiatives. We aim to have a domestic postdoctoral workforce that reflects the diversity of the population in the US and a diverse international postdoctoral population.

OPA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives

Researcher, Mentor, and Teacher: The goal of the this program is to strengthen postdocs’ competencies in mentoring and teaching while increasing the number of underrepresented minority (URM) students who complete a bachelor’s degree in STEM majors and are competitive for Ph.D. programs.

Postdoctoral Diversity Recruitment Initiative is an effort to facilitate the successful recruitment of underrepresented postdoctoral trainees to Ohio State. We aim to increase the visibility of participating researchers to populations of underrepresented minority PhD students who are seeking postdoctoral opportunities.

The Ohio State University is a part of the BTAA Professorial Advancement Initiative (PAI).

Diversity 101 Workshops

This workshop is intended to increase your understanding of the challenges to achieve diversity and the problem of under-representation. Corporations, non-profit, and governmental organizations, as well as colleges and universities value and want a diverse workforce. As a prospective employee, you will be asked about how you support diversity regardless of whether or not you belong to an underrepresented group. Therefore, they will look positively upon job applicants with knowledge in this area. This is one of the core competencies postdoctoral scholars should pursue regardless of their background.

How to Write a Diversity Statement Events

The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs offers an introductory workshop on developing a diversity statement. It is becoming common for universities and colleges to require such a statement from faculty job applicants. The purpose of this document is to verify that an applicant has a commitment to diversity in his or her work within higher education.
