Doctoral Capstone Poster Presentations 2020

Welcome to our Doctoral Capstone Poster Presentations for 2020.  Our students have done some amazing things from universal design in cultural institutions to international experiences to NICU and hand therapy.  We look forward to the amazing things our new graduates will do in practice!

Our Doctoral Capstone is a process that teaches students to how to implement best practice in a real life clinical scenario.  The first step is to complete a systematic literature review on their clinical topic of interest.  Faculty advisers guide students to appraise the body of literature  (versus one article) and determine whether or not the research in that area is of high quality (GRADE process).

Next, students are paired with a clinical site and complete a needs assessment, looking at how that site implements intervention in their area of interest.  Students compare what the site is doing to the best practice they found in the literature.  Some sites are already engaged in best practice, so the students complete a case study on a client.  Other sites have real life barriers to best evidence, and students learn how to determine what those barriers are, and work to merge best evidence with real life.  Our doctoral capstone is infused with principles of implementation science. The whole process benefits the student in learning how to establish clinical guidelines for facilities, and benefits the site with updated literature searches and implementation suggestions for evidence-based interventions.

If you are a clinician, you can earn one contact hour by watching 8 videos, and completing a reflection including one (1) paragraph regarding what you learned, one (1) paragraph on how you can apply the concepts to your own practice as well as a list of the videos you watched.  Send those (short) paragraphs to christopher.brown@osumc.edu and he will send you a certificate of completion.
