Experience & Interests
Dr. Onate’s main research focus is developing functional motion assessment research that bridges the gap across research to clinical systems to allow for evidence-based outcomes for aiding individuals to sustain optimal health and performance throughout their careers and lives. The specific aims of his research are focused on exploring issues regarding screening for risk factors within physically active individuals which may impact their physical, cognitive, and socioeconomic well-being, the neurochemical factors that influence lower extremity injury mitigation and rehabilitation, and human performance optimization techniques for tactical athletes. His research has been sponsored by organizations including the National Institutes of Health, Office of Naval Research, Department of Defense, National Athletic Trainers’ Association Research and Education Foundation and the Computer Science Corporation.  Dr. Onate is a section editor for the Journal of Athletic Training and is a reviewer for several sports medicine, biomechanics, athletic training, and rehabilitation journals.  He is currently a researcher for the NFHS Sports Medicine Advisory Committee, as well as a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.

Research Interests
Dr. Caccese’s research program focuses on the understanding the short- and long-term effects of childhood contact sports participation and mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Her overarching goal is to inform public policy regarding youth sport participation and to improve outcomes in former athletes with the potential to develop neurodegenerative diseases. She uses state-of-the-science virtual reality to examine sensorimotor processing, postural control and dual-task performance. Dr. Caccese is on the editorial board for Research in Sports Medicine: An International Journal and is a reviewer for several sports medicine, biomechanics, and neuroscience journals. She is currently a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Society of Biomechanics.

Research Interests
Dr. Boucher’s research focus explores the role of using musculoskeletal ultrasound in exploring tissue characteristics and how tissue responds to stress, teaching physical exam skills, as well as applications to aid in clinical decision making. She is an expert in musculoskeletal anatomy and uses this expertise to help gain an understanding on injury predisposition, prevention, and biomechanics. Her research has been sponsored by organizations including the Center for Child Injury Prevention Studies and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, the Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine (PRiSM) Society, the Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Research Interest Group in PRiSM, and the Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Community of Practice at OSU.

Adam completed a sports residency through Texas Health Sports Medicine in 2016. Following residency, he hired on as a full time Physical Therapist for THSM working in that capacity for 2.5 years. Adam’s research interest focuses on ACL injury and how neuroplasticity can impact outcomes.​

Dr. Greg Edwards is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Physical Therapist (OCS) with a goal of improving understanding of postural control and balance in many populations, particularly following concussion. He currently is working under Dr Caccese in the “CAVE”, the immersive virtual laboratory studying gait characteristics following concussion.

T.J. is interested in research about injury prevention in the military and tactical athlete population. He joined the MoVES lab to gain experience in current research methods used to collect data in the military setting. He wants to use this experience to become an athletic trainer in the military to educate and prevent injuries associated with combat training.

Alex Bruggeman

Alex is interested in human anatomy and musculoskeletal injuries. His interests also include concussions, specifically surrounding post-concussion syndrome and the causes, determinants of symptom longevity, and treatment effectiveness of persistent post-concussive symptoms. He joined the MOvES Research Team to gain research experience and expand his knowledge of anatomy and neuroscience.

Kyle is the MOvES Research Team podcast coordinator. He is an integral part of making our podcast impactful, informational, and entertaining. Post-graduation, he is interested in working as a news reporter for a large media outlet, like ABC or ESPN.

 

Kate Burke

Kate is interested in contributing wherever she can within the MOvES Team, but has specific interests in holistic injury rehabilitation methods, and recreational athlete wellness.  She joined the MOvES Research Team to open herself to new topics and investigations otherwise unavailable in classroom settings with the hope of taking this knowledge into a career in physical therapy.

Alanna is interested in orthopedics and sports medicine, with a concentration on head injuries and lower extremity injuries. More specifically, she is interested in the short and long term effects of ACL reconstruction. She joined the MOvES Research Team to gain more knowledge in a research setting about sports performance and injuries to better prepare her for her career as an Orthopedic Physician Assistant.

Durshil is interested in concussions, ACL injuries, and sports medicine. He joined the MOvES research team to understand the mechanisms of these injuries, collect/analyze data, and develop conclusions that can be used to direct further research and improve injury outcomes. He plans to pursue a career in medicine and wants to gain experiences and perspectives on how to guide patients with various types of injuries.

Andrew is interested in concussions and other neurological research based around how different neural stimuli affect movement. He is also a member of the sports science initiative where he is involved in research on injury prevention, game loads, player physical demand, and gender differences in injuries in volleyball.

Ayush is interested in research in sports medicine and how optimal performance can be hindered after an injury, specifically after ACL reconstruction. She is currently conducting her Honors Thesis on The Effect of Load Carriage on a Quadriceps Angle During Walking and Running. She joined the MOvES Research Team in order to gain research experience to prepare her for a career as a physical therapist specializing in sports rehabilitation in hopes of working with high school and collegiate athletes.

She hopes to gain first-hand, practical knowledge and real-world learning beyond the classroom in order to prepare for her career path in athletic training and physical therapy.
