Semester in Review

Starting my first semester in college has been a transformation. I have learned so many things about myself. For example, my study habits, ability to make friends, roommate arrangements, and how I can utilize everything Ohio State has to offer. I have met so many people, joined so many clubs — and dropped — and learned so much about chemistry, biology, physiology, and neuroscience. I’ve also learned to accept the fact that I won’t always be able to manage an A for all of my classes. It’s just the fact that I did everything I can to learn and percolate all the information that matters.

Artifacts

necklace artifact

There is a symbol that represents my growth as a person. I am from Mongolia but I know so little about my culture. I moved to Japan right after I was born and had no set foundation for my Mongolian heritage. I would always visit my family in Mongolia every other summer and everywhere around the country, there were always a knot of eternity called the ulzii that fascinated me. Ever since I was young, I was so curious about this knot but too little to understand the concept of it. It wasn’t until this past summer that I visited a local Mongolian museum and was reunited with my childhood fascination in a gift shop. The knot symbolizes unending love and interdependence of everything in ones life. Once I figured out the meaning behind the knot, I immediately realized that the stresses and funs I had during my years leading up to graduating high school lead me to the hardworking and dedicated person I am now, ready for both the challenges and advantages of college. This thing — this symbol — that I had been intrigued about my whole life  had finally made sense right before I start the new journey of life and transition into the life of college!

I also have another artifact that mainly represents the growth of my senior year in high school. This notebook holds everything I learned as a person and as a learner. I took notes, scribbled doodles, wrote messages to my friends, and did my work in this notebook. I still have it with me to remind myself how hard I worked to prepare myself for college. I took AP Calc BC, Chemistry, Biology, American Government and Politics, Physics, American History, English Literature and Language, and Statistics. Everything I learned in all of these classes are represented in the 5-subject notebook, whether it be through actual subjects in the book or the cumulative note-taking skills I acquired from each class.
