Year in Review

Since I am almost halfway through my undergraduate experience, I feel like it is time to reflect on the G.O.A.L.S of the Honors program. For the past few semesters, I have been developing my Global Awareness by participating in cultural organizations and activities. During winter 2016, I participated in a Birthright trip to Israel through the Ohio State University Hillel. It was an eye-opening adventure where I learned about the many different cultures that are in Israel. After this trip, I decided to get more involved at Hillel and participate in different programs that they provide. For the Original Inquiry goal, I have been lucky enough to participate in classes that not only teach about research, but have us as individuals participate in research. From creating my own research question and hypothesis and testing it out, to reading about research and writing my thoughts on how the researchers could have done better, my mind has been opened to think more critically and creatively. If you look through the courses I have taken or will take, you will see that since my first year  here at Ohio State, I have challenged myself to take upper-level classes for my Psychology major and Forensic Science minor. The rest of my curriculum will mainly be major and minor classes that focus on what I want to do after I graduate. I want to potentially go into the legal world, but more of the psychology side of it, so I chose classes that relate to all of those fields. During my second semester of my first year, I joined the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. During my first year, I was not anything, but an active member and then I decided to run for secretary of the chapter. Now having a leadership position, I am learning what it is like to have the huge responsibility of maintaining the chapter. It has been a great experience so far and I can definitely see how lessons I am learning, such as meeting deadlines and talking to people professionally could help me in my career. Lastly, through my sorority and the Ronald McDonald House, I have participated in different short-term service projects. For example, in the beginning if my second year, my entire sorority volunteered to help out with O.W.L move in. We helped move in all those who were moving in early to help out the rest of the college students who live in the dorms to move in. It was a great experience bonding with my sorority sisters and other organizations on campus that volunteered also to help. I plan on participating in other service events when they present themselves to me and I am lucky to be part of an organization that offers so many opportunities to participate in service.
