School of Communication Resources

Derby Hall Recording Studio- Record lectures with your video or voice-over slides in a professional-grade studio. May require additional editing. Adobe Premiere Pro available in grad lab and Final Cut Pro available in Digital Unions.

Please send a request to asctech@osu.edu to get set up for your first recording. Swipe access will then be enabled. IT staff will assist you with setup for your first recording. Please specify in your ticket that this is for the Derby Hall Recording Studio.

ASC Tech Managed Resources

ASC Tech Full Service Studios- The College of Arts and Sciences manages two studios that are free for online instructors in the college. One offers a traditional studio where slides, videos, or other media may be embedded in your lecture in post-production. The other is a light board that enables the instructor to display writing to the viewer. Either video is provided to the instructor fully edited and ready to post. To request studio time, please email asctech@osu.edu to start a ticket. Please include Media Services request in the subject line. This will notify the Media Services staff and the appropriate staff will respond to schedule.

Personal Device Options

MediaSite is OSU’s personal lecture capture software. You may create a profile at https://mediasite.osu.edu.  Help can be found at  https://resourcecenter.odee.osu.edu/mediasite

Adobe Spark is available for free and is a good resource for short videos. https://spark.adobe.com

PowerPoint in Office 365 is now enabled with voiceover capability. The student version is supported, but faculty and staff accounts may not be supported.

Explain Everything is an app that allows the user to record voice over slides, draw on a whiteboard or the slides, insert videos and more. The School of Communication has limited licenses available for Explain Everything. This may be used on a personal device, but works best on an iPad. The SoC has iPads available for checkout.

Screencast-o-matic offers a free version or a paid upgrade. Screencast-o-matic captures anything shown on your screen and accesses your microphone for audio.

QuickTime screen recording is available on Apple devices.
