Applying deodorant with one hand was a fairly simple task.

Putting on sneakers and tying them was almost impossible, and required two feet and a lot of patience.

Getting the sock onto the foot with one hand was a difficult task.

The Morning Preparations team decided to do random tasks the average person does in the morning. In order to see what it would be like, each task was done with only one hand. Below is a list of the tasks performed.

Getting hair gel out of a bottle doesn’t seem like a particularly difficult task at first for someone with one hand. But when Jon was attempting to squeeze it out of a bottle, it took a few repositions in order to be able to squeeze it with one hand while making sure it ends up in that hand.

For putting the belt through belt loops on shorts, it was difficult at first because he had to hold  the belt constantly to make sure it didn’t slide back out of the first few ones. Once it was close to halfway through, however, the process went faster. One the best was past the middle back loop, he had to reach around and and bend a little to reach the belt which was slightly difficult.

For the last task, putting on a t-shirt, the effort required was only slightly more when accomplished one-handed than with two hands. It took a little longer, but there were no real obstacles.

Task: Putting toothpaste on a standing toothbrush.

While Anthony was starting to perform his task, he had trouble with getting the large screw cap off the toothpaste. There are different cap types for toothpaste out there, but if that particular person valued that kind of toothpaste, this could be a challenge. Once the cap was off, which fell in the sink, the next task was getting the toothpaste on the toothbrush. At first it wasn’t terribly hard, but he had to grip the top of the toothbrush in order to get it on. Which could contaminate the toothbrush head. The toothpaste got everywhere on the toothbrush, and getting the cap back on the toothpaste also became a challenge.

Task: Putting shaving gel in hand and turning into foam.

At first, this task didn’t seem like it was going to be challenging. But the large cap to the shaving gel was a challenge to get off. Once the shaving gel was in his hand and him using one hand to mix it around, it then covered his hand. But to turn on the water to the sink, meant he had to use a hand with shaving cream all over it.

Task: Tying a bow tie.

While Anthony started off good, it did not take long for the task to become impossible. Once he got to the first inward loop, it was then impossible for Anthony to keep the bow tie tight around his neck and looping the bow tie through.

Buttoning a shirt with one hand was definitely difficult to get used to, but with some practice Payton began to get the hang of it.

Putting on pants with one hand really wasn’t too difficult to get used to. It took slightly longer than it would have had Payton used both hands, but it really wasn’t a major inconvenience.

Shaving with one hand can be frustrating in tighter areas around Payton’s jawline where he might have benefited from having another hand to manipulate skin.

Trimming Finger/Toe Nails: Trimming toe nails can be done with little difficulty, but it is essentially impossible to trim your finger nails since you have to hold the clippers.

Opening a Pill Bottle: Unless pressing against a table or some sort of stable surface, opening a pill bottle singlehandedly is very difficult. You must be able to press down and twist the lid with only a few fingers. Different type of bottles can be easier, but standard prescription bottles require too much pressure to easily unscrew the cap. Moreover, once the bottle is open, it is difficult to tip the bottle over to get a pill without spilling them all out.

Putting in Contacts: Depending on your case, it may be easy to retrieve your contact. However, trying to manipulate it and get back on your finger to insert into the eye is difficult using only one hand.
