What is Ohio Veterans NOW?

“NOW” stands for Neuromodulation – Operation Wellness – a program that pairs data-driven transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) with other therapies to address problems of mental health and substance use among Veterans.

Veterans NOW is the first publicly sponsored program of its kind, with Veterans helping Veterans overcome challenges, re-establish psychological and physical well-being, and access services for sustainable recovery and healthy living.

This program was sponsored by Ohio Senator Frank Hoagland, a retired United States Navy SEAL who represents Ohio’s 30th District. It is funded through Ohio House Bill 166, Section 5902.09, passed in 2019, establishing a pilot program to make data-driven transcranial magnetic stimulation available for veterans with substance use disorders or mental illness.

TEAM Argonaut, a non-profit organization founded by a retired U.S. Navy SEAL and retired U.S. Marine, leads the Veteran outreach and advocate activities of the Ohio Veterans NOW team. The pilot program is operated under the auspices of the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and Ohio Department of Veterans Services.

The first locations to open are in Columbus, at the OSU Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) Clinic at the Dodd/Davis Center, in Perry County, at Perry Health and Behavioral Choices, Inc., and at Barnesville Hospital. Additional locations are planned for Northwest Ohio, Northeast Ohio, and Southwest Ohio.
