Tryouts!

It’s that time of year again and tryouts for the OSUMB are less than two weeks away!  If you haven’t already, be sure to register for tryouts and check out the tryout information page up on the OSUMB website and the Auditions page on our website.

Those who are registered will receive a link to the playing audition music.  Candidates will also need to have the following school songs memorized for the marching and playing portions of tryouts: Fight the Team Across the Field, Buckeye Battle Cry, Hang On Sloopy, and Down By the Ohio.  All school songs can be found on our music page.

The 2017 Tryout schedule is as follows:

     Thursday, August 10: Squad leader tryouts, 9 a.m. to noon, 2-5 p.m.
     Friday, August 11: Candidate Day 1 (for all who have not previously been members of the marching band), 2-5 p.m., 7-9 p.m. Registration will be open at the Band Center from noon-2 p.m. There will be an optional meeting for parents at 2:30 p.m.
     Saturday, August 12: Candidate Day 2, 9 a.m. to noon, 2-5 p.m.
     Sunday, August 13: OSUMB Tryouts Day 1 for all candidates, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Secondary instrument auditions and music/marching re-auditions, 7-9 p.m.
     Monday, August 14: OSUMB Tryouts Day 2 for all candidates, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; 2017 band selected ~9 p.m.

Summer Update!

Hi Buckeyes!  We have just a few pieces of information we wanted to get out to you all regarding the next few weeks.  First, If you are auditioning for the 2016 OSU Marching Band please be registered for tryouts by this coming Monday, July 25th.  You can register for tryouts here.  The audition music will be distributed, to those who are registered, next week.

We also want to remind everyone that the summer session schedule is a little bit different next week.  We will be having our usual 5 pm – 9 pm summer sessions on Monday July 25th, and Tuesday July 26th, but there will be no session that Thursday.  There will also be no drumline sectional Wednesday July 27th due to the soccer game in Ohio Stadium.

Lastly, there are two new exercises to work on under the music PDF’s page called Zone Blitz and Bump and Run.

Tryout and Early Housing Information

Auditions are less than seven days away, and veterans and candidates are gearing up to earn their spots in the OSUDL.

Candidate days will take place on Sunday and Monday (August 9th and 10th respectively) with registration opening up at 12:00 pm and running up until 2:00 pm. Registration for candidate days will take place in the lobby of the Steinbrenner Band Center.

Students are also eligible for early housing during and after the audition process, and is highly recommended for students commuting to the auditions. Take a look at the Housing Letter provided by the university for more information on the costs associated with early move in and who to contact for more information.

2015 Playing Audition Information

Auditions for the OSUDL are right around the corner (August 9 – 12) and the playing audition information has been completed. Students auditioning will be asked to play a number of warmups and written pieces to their choice within the tempo maps provided. Sight reading will also be included in the audition. There will not be a met in the room for the audition.

 

The playing audition will take place in the morning block of the first day of Auditions (August 11th). Candidates will play alone in front of an adjudicator from outside the band program for 10 minutes, being asked to perform everything listed below in the Audition Packet. The music does not need to be memorized.

OSUDL Playing Auditions

Auditions for the 2014 edition of TBDBITL are less than two weeks away, and the information regarding the playing portion of the tryout for the OSUDL have been officially released!
