Weekly Update – June 15

For this upcoming week, please have exercises 1-5 of the Buckeye Technique Packet and No Joke Strokes under your hands and memorized by this Thursday’s Summer Session. We will be playing through them on Tuesday and Wednesday as well, so make sure you are comfortable playing through them and come prepared to play.

Make sure to take a look at the marching schedule posted on the Summer Session tab so that you are keeping up with the marching aspect of the rehearsals.

Don’t hesitate to send the squad leaders any questions you may have, or videos of your playing and marching. This is especially useful if you are an out of state student or are unable to make it to all of the practices. The squad leaders are more than happy to watch video footage of you and send feedback throughout the week.

We look forward to seeing everyone this week!

Summer Sessions

Summer Sessions will begin tonight at 5:00pm outside the doors of the band center. When you first arrive, go to the second floor of the band center facilities and go to the instrument office to check out a drum for the night. You will need some sort of collateral to check out the drum, we recommend bringing your license. A drum and sling/harness will also be provided to you as you check out a drum from the instrument office. At the end of the night, the drums will be returned to the office.

We look forward to seeing everyone tonight!

Please have all of the music downloaded and printed out in a binder and be ready to rehearse at this time. Further information regarding Summer Sessions will be released in the coming days.

We look forward to seeing everyone this summer!

Weekly Update – April 7th

Hello Buckeye Nation!

We have a few different things to talk about today, with those things being the announcement of the 2015 – 2016 Squad Leaders and the OSU Bands Night that is coming up.

The Squad Leaders for the 2015 – 2016 season are Justin Castle (Head Snare), Brendan Todahl (Assistant Snare), Dan Hays (Bass Drum), Maile Shield (Cymbals), and Alex Repke (Tenor Drums). We would like to congratulate these individuals and let everyone know that they are excited to work with the incoming candidates and veteran members alike! Make sure to head over to the Contact tab on the site if you need to get in contact with any of these individuals, as this is where their email addresses will be listed. Our percussion instructor Mark Reynolds also has his email address listed if you are interested in speaking with him at any point in time.

OSU Bands Night, formerly known as Junior/Senior Night, will be taking place on Sunday, April 19th from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Any junior or senior in high school is invited to come and spend some time with current members of the band, ask questions, tour the facilities, get to know the staff here at Ohio State, and get a taste of the different musical ensembles that Ohio State has to offer. This will include a presentation about different groups within the school of music, a performance by the Ohio State Spring Athletic Band, and student leaders and staff from the Ohio State Marching Band on site to answer any questions you may have. Parents are more than welcome to attend with students!

Students can register on the official Ohio State Marching Band webpage, and find additional information regarding some of the logistics of the event.
