Education Team

Amputee Education

Mission

We want to educate amputees about different technologies and clinical practices available to them in a digestible way. We want to help amputees understand these technologies and their best uses so they can decide what devices/procedures best suit their needs.

Projects

We are developing amputee education programs that teach amputees about different types of prosthetic devices, clinical procedures, and 3D Printing. Specific projects include:

  • Educational modules we will have posted here on our website
  • Engaging with amputee support groups to teach them about these topics
  • Hosting public educational events

Professional Education

Mission

We want to help current and future professionals interested in accessible prosthetic technologies learn how to incorporate accessible manufacturing practices, such as 3D printing, into their practices.

Projects

In addition to training amputees about the technologies and resources available to them, we want to help teach professionals about accessible manufacturing practices and how they can bring these practices into their work.

Collegiate Education

We strive to train the next generation of doctors, engineers, and other professional about accessible prosthetic care at the collegiate level to ensure that we can impact future generations with our work today. Current projects include:

  • Organizing and working with clubs at universities to provide students with hands on experiences around accessible prostheses
  • Developing a class at the University of Pittsburgh that will teach about 3D-printed prostheses while working with amputees in the local area

Middle School and High School Education

On the API education team, we are developing an engineering program for high school and middle school students to teach them about STEM, 3D-printing, and prostheses. Specific projects include:

  • After school program revolving around 3D-printed prostheses
  • Working with Project Lead the Way for middle and high school students to expose students to 3D-printed prostheses
