Alumni Voices: Sharing Japan-related Experiences & Opportunities

ohjan logoThe Ohio-Japan Alumni Network (OH-JAN) and the Institute for Japanese Studies (OSU) are pleased to host the conference, “Alumni Voices: Sharing Japan-related Experiences & Opportunities”

This a Signature Event presented by the Ohio-Japan Alumni Network to bring together students, alumni and teachers of Japan-related programs in Ohio and focus on the success of Japanese studies and Japan-related programs in Ohio and the opportunties for students of these programs. Alumni will share Japan-related experiences and network with other alumni, students, and teachers through the common threads that connect everyone across generation, career, and institution.

Who should come?

  • Alumni can share experiences and network with students, teachers and other alumni in the same field, university or program.
  • High School students can meet people in the field of academic or career interest and talk with college teachers engaged in Japan-related programs.
  • College students can hear about academic and career experiences and network with alumni and talk with college teachers engaged in Japan-related programs.
  • Teachers can hear experiences in the workplace and connect with alumni, and showcase Japan-related programs to high school and undergraduate students.

  • Alumni: Network with other alumni, share experiences with students, teachers and other alumni, meet alumni in your field, your university or programs you have participated (internships, JET, study abroad).
  • High School students: Meet people in the field you are considering, talk with teachers of college Japanese programs.
  • College students: Network with alumni and hear about their experiences in the workplace.
  • Teachers: Connect with alumni, learn about their experiences in the workplace, showcase your programs to high school and Undergraduate students.

Help promote the event—the more attending (students/alumni/teachers) the better the outcome for all!

This network is for any person that was involved in any Japan-related program in any Ohio K-12 or college. OH-JAN connects alumni from K-16 Japan-related programs in Ohio (language study, internships and study abroad) with alumni of our own or other schools, educators, students, businesses and the community; members serve as mentors and advocate for careers using Japanese through email, video, webinar, or in-person interactions; supporting the college and high school students in Japan-related programs across the state as well as other alumni. The meeting will focus on planning the next steps for OH-JAN, including the alumni videos, signature event in 2015 and creating sustainability.
