The purpose of the summit is to create a space for educators to come together around a shared vision of offering programs to support students’ bilingualism, biliteracy, and biculturalism. The conference aims to foster “Pathways to Biliteracy” through language programs that connect elementary, middle, and secondary grades and allow students to become fully bilingual and earn the Ohio Seal of Biliteracy.

The Ohio State University se complace en organizar la inauguración de la Conferencia del Bilingüismo de Ohio.

El propósito de la conferencia es crear un espacio para que los educadores se unan en torno a una visión compartida para apoyar el bilingüismo, biliteracidad y biculturismo de los estudiantes. La conferencia tiene como objetivo fomentar “Caminos al Biliteracidad” a través de programas de idiomas en todos los niveles de la educación; básico, intermedios y secundarios que les permita a los estudiantes convertirse y celebrar completamente el bilingüismo y obtengan el Sello de Biliteracidad de Ohio.

Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Wayne Wright of Purdue University, a leading expert in the country on Language Education Policy for bilingual and EL students, and co-author of Foundations of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism (6th Ed. Multilingual Matters), and Foundations for Teaching English Language Learners: Research, Theory, Policy, and Practice (3rdEd. Caslon Press).

Other workshops in the summit will include two areas:

Current Dual Language Programs: There are currently 12 dual/bilingual/foreign immersion programs across the state of Ohio. The summit will provide a forum for educators from current dual language schools to come together to discuss the challenges of implementing high quality programs.
Establishing a Dual Language Program: Does your district or school want to start a dual language program? The workshops will cover the benefits, challenges, and costs of establishing a new program, as well as different program models to fit the goals and demographics of your school or district.
