Third mini-grant competition announced

A request for proposals has been issued in the third mini-grant competition sponsored by the OHHP to encourage research on, and teaching about, Hispanic Ohio. Small Research Grants of up to $1000 are available to OSU faculty and students for projects to be carried out in 2015, and faculty may apply for Course Enhancement Grants of up to $1500 for courses to be offered in 2015 or 2016. Proposals are due Monday, May 2, 2015.

Three more mini-grants awarded

Three projects have been funded in the second round of “mini-grants” for teaching and research related to Hispanic communities of Ohio. Congratulations to Michael C. Brown for his “Mapping the Spanish speakers of Ohio”; to Jeffrey H. Cohen for “‘Oportunidades: Understanding the growth of the Latino community in Columbus, Ohio”; and to Luis Fernando Macías for “Reaching the DREAM: Documenting the undocumented and DACA students’ pursuit of higher education in Ohio.”

Three projects have been funded in the first round of “mini-grants” for teaching and research related to Hispanic communities of Ohio. Congratulations to Anna M. Babel, Elena Foulis, and Eugenia Romero for their “Needs Assessment and Course Enhancement for Spanish for Heritage Speakers”; to Ignacio Corona for “‘Espacios, mitos e identidades latino / americanas’: A New Version of the Senior Seminar on Latin American Literatures and Cultures”; and to Elena Foulis for the “Oral Narrative Initiative” she proposed for student research in the experiential course “Spanish in Ohio.”

OHHP inaugurated

The Ohio Hispanic Heritage Project (OHHP) has officially been kick-started this fall with the naming of a Steering Committee and the announcement of a mini-grant competition. This web site will provide public access to the Project, including updates on teaching, research, and funding opportunities and links to information about Hispanic Ohio.
