Artist Residency Program : Summer 2015 at The Ohio State University is a prestigious enclave of world leaders in the field of Indian Classical Dance. Indian classical dance is an umbrella term for various codified art forms rooted in sacred Hindu musical theatre styles whose theory can be traced back to the Natyashastra of Bharata Muni (400 BCE). Bringing artists from various styles within the genre of classical Indian dancing, this program brings the OSU community in close association with the Indian diaspora in Ohio. The program spans over two weeks, featuring rigorous training and performances by the artists. It focuses on pedagogy, performance, as well as choreography. The resident artists work on fundamentals of technique, elements of practice, and moves on to ornamentations of repertoire.
