Pre-final Crit

What is left to do:

-Fire & paint ceramics

-Add metal “teeth” to help tear the receipt

-Better documentation once everything is fired and painted 🙂

Questions:

-Does anyone have an idea for how I could make the receipt come out more easily? Right now you have to guide it out sometimes.

-I’ve been thinking about changing the instructions very slightly to be something embarrassing about you/that has happened to you and I will tell you the same about me (instead of just something random about you) to add some humor and make it more enticing/interesting, so I would love to hear your thoughts on that.

Project Prototype

For my project, so far, I have gotten the mini thermal printer to print and have changed the code so that it will print a custom message. I am now working on finding and altering codes from similar projects so that it will print random messages at the press of a button. Because this seems like the best route to go for what I am aiming for, I think the idea will be that people can write something about themselves on a slip of paper and put it into a ballot-style box. They can then press a button which will cause the printer to print a receipt with something about me on it.

In terms of casing, I want to create something that represents me as an artist, so I have decided that I will, ideally, create a ceramic casing for each piece of the project. This will include a ceramic ballot box and a ceramic casing for the printer/button/arduino, which may need two separate casings. If time does not allow for ceramic casing to be made, I want to use another casing that I can paint or draw on to represent myself as an artist in that way.

Tilt Ball Switch, Temp and Humidity, 4 Segment Display

  1. Tilt Ball Switch and Buzzer
  2. Temperature and Humidity Sensor
  3. 4 Segment Display
  4. A) Thermometer
  5. I would use the four segment display in order to create images. I thought the video we watched in class was so interesting where they had a ton of four segment displays put together and coded to create moving images. I think it would be really cool to make an image that looks like a person. Further, it would be cool if viewers could have their picture taken, and then that photo would be digitally transformed into an image on the board of four segment displays.
