Financial Wellness – Spring Clean Your Subscriptions

Don’t let the cold/rainy weather fool you… Spring is here(ish)! Often, we think of spring as a time of renewal, as the first signs of warmer weather begin to appear in our gardens, and the grass begins to grow (mowing season is upon us). We may find ourselves engaging in a bit (or a lot) of Spring cleaning.

This month, the Wellness Team encourages you to engage in a bit of financial Spring cleaning as well. We know that concerns about finances and expenses can be a big source of stress. Are there areas that you may be spending to much money each month? Although that question might seem too tough to handle, let’s focus on one area where you could engage in some financial Spring cleaning: recurring or monthly chares for services you no longer use.

  • Are you still using that gym membership regularly?
  • How many streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc.) do you actually watch?
  • Is that extra cloud storage necessary, or could you manage with less?
  • Could you reduce your internet speed package without significantly affecting your usage?

Many services now offer convenient “pause” options, allowing you to temporarily suspend subscriptions without cancelling completely. This feature provides an excellent opportunity to test how much you genuinely miss a service before deciding whether to keep or cancel it permanently.

By trimming just a few unused or under-utilized subscriptions, you might save anywhere from $20-100+ monthly, adding up to significant savings over the year.
