Meet the Wellness Team

Melissa Buelow

Melissa serves as the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs at Ohio State Newark. She is also a Professor of Psychology and conducts research on decision making and other cognitive functions. She earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in health psychology. Prior to arriving at Ohio State Newark in 2011, she conducted neuropsychological assessments and individual and group psychotherapy for individuals with a variety of mental health and neurological diagnoses. In her free time, you can often find her hiking, biking, putting together puzzles, and playing Pokémon Go with her active 6-year-old.

Coryn Gonzales

Coryn serves as an Academic Success Coach and Interventions Coordinator at Ohio State Newark as well as an Intern with Counseling Services while they complete their Master’s in Social Work at Ohio State. Coryn is passionate about holistic wellness and how they are all interconnected to our overall well-being. Their goal in the future is to create their own non-profit care farm, connecting nutrition, environmental, community/social, creative, physical, and mental wellness. In their free time, Coryn loves to work in the garden, learn new healthy recipes, go on walks in the local metro parks, and read a good book with their two kitties, Kylo and Vader. When they have time, they will play Dungeons and Dragons… usually as a wood elf.

Jen Kowalsky

Jen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Ohio State Newark. As health psychologist and behavioral scientist, she is interested in understanding why people decide to engage (or not engage) in health behaviors. Additionally, she focuses on developing and evaluating ways to support health promoting behavior uptake and experience. During her free time, Jen enjoys hiking, gardening, cooking, practicing yoga, and spending time with her 5 year old.

Lijuan Bi

LiJuan (lee-juran) is a senior lecturer of Math at Ohio State Newark. Wellness is one of the most important things in her life, she likes learning about it, applying it, and sharing it with others. LiJuan is a foodie, and she enjoys walking, reading, and going to Disneyland.

Katie Reed

Katie is a mental health therapist for Ohio State Newark and Central Ohio Technical College students. Prior to this position, Katie worked in private practice for 14 years, as well as time in community mental health. She earned a B.S. in psychology from Ohio State and an M.Ed. in community counseling from Ohio University. Special areas of interest include working with clients with anxiety, depression, and adjustment to life changes. Katie also likes to focus on overall wellness for the whole person. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons. She also enjoys reading, exercise, and learning new things.
