In the Spring of 2015 I was contacted by a fellow oncology nurse who was a part of the national Board of Directors for the national Oncology Nurses Society. She had previously been a part of an International Delegation which had been a part of a collaboration between the National Cancer Institute and the Middle East Palliative Care Education Consortium. There was a new team being assembled and she asked if I would apply to be a member. I did and was invited.
It was an incredible experience where five of us taught a three day a class and we were hosted by the Sultan of Oman and the previous Minister of Health, Dr Walid. Dr. Walid and his wife Madame Uther, who was one of two women in the Sultan’s cabinet and four time cancer survivor, were particularly interested in continually improving cancer care for Oman citizens. An unexpected once in a lifetime experience. Below see some pictures from our trip.
