Post Conference Experience

-Critical thinking and understanding the “why” of nursing

  1. Choose a patient to use as a case study.
  2. Have the primary student present the H&P and basic assessment.
  3. Have students ask questions they think are relevant to the patient situation with the primary student providing more information as questions are asked.
  4. Ask students why they are asking the questions they are and the importance of knowing the specific information.
  5. Ask what the priorities should be for the patient and why.
  6. If an intervention is suggested ask why they think it should be done and what effect do they expect to see. (ie. Patient with fluid overload needing Lasix)
  7. Ask what they want to monitor with each intervention.
  8. Ask what/who are the available resources if they have questions or concerns
