The Dysfunxional Movement Collective is an intergenerational dance group that celebrates disability, queerness, advocacy, and bodily diversity. Created in 2023 by a group of experimental movers interested in dance & theatre improvisation, the collective is facilitated by Zoey November, MFA student in Dance & Disability at The Ohio State University. The group’s name references society’s perception of disability, defined as interfering with a person’s ability to function – but who decides what movements are considered functional or dysfunctional? How do we insist upon our own diverse ways of functioning in this world?
