Her mother was committed to her children and preserving the indigenous culture, tradtitions, and values for her family. Her mother and grandmothers were role models for her in having edurance and strength that her Indian roots could provide. She grew in a community with a lot of mestizos so maintaining her culture proved difficult as those around her began to cut their hair, put on western clothing, and spoke Spanish and entered the world of mestizos to this day Pacari still speaks her native language Quechua. However at age 14, Pacari became one of the first Indians of her community to attain a higher education and there her journey fighting for the rights of her people began.
