Honors Contract Reflection

1. I have worked very hard to develop my Global Awareness while at Ohio State. I have already completed a study abroad program through the political science department, the Canadian Parliament Internship Program. I had an amazing experience learning about the nation of Canada and immersing myself in a culture similar to America, but that had numerous differences. Beyond this program, I am participating in another study abroad program, Spain Global May. I am really looking forward to learning about the city of Madrid and learning about such a different culture. I also participate in the Collegiate Council on World Affairs (CCWA), which is the Model UN club on campus. I also take a wide range of courses in history and political science that introduce me to different cultures and nations.

2. In relation to research and Original Inquiry, I have taken a number of advanced courses that have focused on a final research paper. I have improved significantly in my ability to conduct research for assignments over the past two years. I have learned to use the library databases and have improved my sources from small articles I find to journals and books by related researchers. In the future, I will be taking a history research class and this will have me focused on a research paper for a whole semester. Beyond this, I do not have plans for a thesis or other undergraduate research projects.

3. My honors contract demonstrates my strong commitment to Academic Enrichment. I am taking a wide range of classes in my majors, my minor, and general education classes. My history classes focus on European history but I am gaining knowledge from a wide range of history through classes on Africa, Asia, revolutions, and Rome. In political science I have taken classes on a variety of different nations and their political systems. I have also taken a classs on political economy, despite my general dislike of economics. In city and regional planning, I am taking classes on social justice, transportation, and the global environment. I have taken a number of general education courses that relate to my majors but have also taken classes that interest me such as mythology. My curriculum is planned to help me with my future aspiration of working in politics and city planning.

4. I am involved in a number of organizations on campus, including CCWA and the John Glenn Civic Leadership Community and its related club the Civic Leadership Council. I participate in Model UN through CCWA and currently run the weekly trivia game for the club. In the Civic Leadership Community, I have participated as one of a number of second years thanks to the addition of a second year program for learning communities. I have helped mentor some of the first year students and continue to participate in community events. In the Civic Leadership Council, I served on the executive board as second year representative this year and will serve as a policy co-chair next year. The organizations I am a part of support my goals to gain more knowledge, serve the community, and advance policy I believe in.

5. The Civic Leadership Community and Council have a strong service component. I have participated in volunteering events throughout Columbus and have volunteered in Washington DC as a part of the community’s annual trip to the city. I will continue to be involved in these organizations during the next two years and look forward to participating in new service projects. I also believe that public service is very important, which is why I interned and volunteered with campaigns during the 2016 election. I plan to work on more campaigns in the future and hope to work in the public sector for most of my life.
